Maxar is currently seeking a highly motivated Space Systems Engineer with a dynamic work ethic and strong desire to contribute to the DoD mission to support the USSF Space Systems Center Space Sensing directorate in El Segundo, CA!
What you will do:
Work with the U.S. Space Force to develop and rapidly deploy the next generation of resilient Missile Warning (MW), Tactical Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (TISR), and Environmental Monitoring (EM) capabilities to deter attacks and provide critical information to our warfighters to defeat our enemies in battle.
What you will do day-to-day:
You will be responsible for end-to-end development and delivery of solutions that meet evolving customer needs. The following is expected:
- Provide space-based remote sensing subject matter expertise
- Support MAJCOM and COCOM working groups to define Concept of Operations (CONOPS) and Capabilities Based Requirements Documents (CBRD) [Initial Capability Document (ICD), Capability Development Document (CDD), and Capability Production Document (CPD)], traceable to architectures and preliminary technical requirements documents
- Support the Government to perform capabilities-based assessments or other analyses on capability requirements and associated capability gaps and risks by developing architecture views to identify mission needs
- Develop preliminary conceptual system architectures that document the mission and operational capabilities in both initial capabilities viewpoints and high-level operational viewpoints
- Support the development of operational threads (mission threads), use cases, and activity diagrams
- Analyze Government reference system architectures and program-developed system architectures and system requirements to identify and report system engineering issues and technical risks for each program solution
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical discipline
- 5+ years of experience in large-scale space mission and Systems Engineering and integration on national security space programs
- 4+ years of experience performing Systems Engineering analysis and developing Systems Engineering products for satellite systems
- Experience leading a team for development of technical specifications, interface control documents, integration plans and schedules, and test plans and schedules for satellite systems
- Experience leading a team to conduct or support space system Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), and System Verification Reviews (SVRs)
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering standards, including IEEE 15288.1 and IEEE 15288.2
- Ability to communicate and establish collaborative relationships with government clients, Federally Funded Research and Developmental Centers (FFRDC), and associate contractor teammates to achieve program goals
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Highly motivated and dynamic work ethic with a strong desire to contribute to the DoD mission
Preferred Qualifications:
- TS/SCI clearance
- Master's degree in an Engineering, Mathematics, CS, or Physics field
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional Certifications, including ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP Certifications
- Experience in the Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR), defense weather, and tactical ISR mission areas
- Experience with OPIR payloads, space-based weather payloads, satellite busses, and satellite subsystems, including propulsion, thermal control, power, attitude control, TT&C, communications, data processing, and structures
- Experience leading a team performing Systems Engineering, integration, and testing on space-based remote sensing systems
- Experience leading a team using a Model-Based Systems Engineering approach to manage system definitions and technical baselines)
- Knowledge of DoD 5000.01 and 5000.02
- Knowledge of Agile Methodologies
- Master's degree in an Engineering, Mathematics, CS, or Physics field
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional Certifications, including ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP Certifications

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
$97,000.00 - $161,000.00 annually.
