Position Summary:
A Sommelier acts as part of an integral service team providing the utmost of customer service and fine dining standards. This position primary focus on recommending and pairing wines with food for patrons. Maintains a teamwork orientation toward and among co-workers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities, but not limited to:
General:
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule up to and including weekends and holidays. Slanted door is a priority one restaurant and must come before any other job schedule preference.
- Promote and cultivate a healthy, harmonious and profitable working relationship within the Slanted Door Inc.
- Attend & participate in department meetings as required
- Ensure that all systems and routines are incorporated into the day-to-day operations of the restaurant
- Adhere to company’s policies and protocols and apply best practices into the day to day operations of the restaurant.
- Exercise good judgment in decision-making and reporting issues to Wine Director & Management team.
- Partner with FOH & BOH for customer’s satisfaction
- Food Handler Certification compliant
- RBS compliant
- Sexual Harassment Training Compliant
- Responsible for performing other related duties as assigned by the Management team.
Operations:
- Stays current with wine list, notes, pairings and education through communication with Wine Director, classes and industry tastings
- Daily stocking, inventory assessment and organization of wine room
- Assist in monthly wine inventory
- Attendance at weekly wine classes
- Communication to staff of daily wine notes, discrepancies, 86’d items and new wines
- Responsible for respectful, accurate and knowledgeable wine service for all patrons
- Assists service staff with food service and beverage service
- Ensures guest satisfaction in Restaurant Service Operations.
- Pursues thorough knowledge of food, cocktail and drink lists
- Coordinates and communicates with kitchen and service staff effectively
- Communicate with Wine Director regarding glassware/cooking wine/bar specific wine/wine key/decanter/ice bucket needs
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support Wine Director on coaching service staff about paired wines to ensure they are able to assist in a knowledgeable fashion
- Performs all service procedures in an exemplary manner
- Assist in the effort to ensure guests are greeted in a warm and timely manner
- Responds to guest concerns and questions and resolves to guest’s satisfaction by trouble shooting or directing guest complaints to appropriate department head for prompt action.
- Assist in running food when directed by a manager/chef/runner
- Assist with clearing and bussing tables as needed.•
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma / Certificate
- Continuing Wine Education
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
- Must be over 21 years
- Minimum 2 years prior experience in wine service experience in an upscale or luxury dining facility.
- Possess extensive wine knowledge
- Effective communication & written skills
- Mature judgment and professionalism in handling all matters
Working Conditions:
- Standing & walking 100% within the interior of the Restaurant
- May lift up to 25 pounds regularly (full wine case)
- No personal phone use while on the clock•
Uniform / Attendance Requirements:
- Superior attendance and punctuality
- Arrive on time and Uniforms and/or clothing should always be “on stage clean”
- Professional attire
