Solid Waste Worker

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for performing physically demanding outdoor manual labor for the collection and disposal of refuse and other waste items within the City. This position reports to the Sanitation Crew Chief.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Performs a wide variety of tasks related to the function of the Sanitation division.
• Responsible for learning and applying safe work practices.
• Responsible for the maintenance of all work tools and vehicles assigned within in the division.
• Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

• Must be eighteen years of age or older.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

• Knowledge of modern techniques, methods, procedures and practices of maintaining municipal infrastructure.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time, possibly in inclement weather.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing and possess good people skills.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Florida Driver's License.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS

• Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections)
• Acceptable hearing (with or without aid)
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
• Ability to climb, reach, walk, stand, bend, stoop, and kneel
• Ability to frequently change activities
• Ability to grasp, lift, push, pull, and carry heavy objects (60 pounds or more) on a frequent basis
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with moderate noise levels and will be exposed to outside environmental conditions and possibly inclement weather.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.02 - $24.14 per hour
