Responsibilities
Overview:
A Soil Scientist is a person with specialized knowledge of soil morphology (i.e., the arrangement and characteristics of the layers, or horizons, in a soil profile), soil chemistry, soil biology, and/or soil physics. Soil scientists use this knowledge to better assist their clients' needs in developing their property.
Duties:
- Perform and record soil evaluations in the field for suitability.
- Prepare and review reports, proposals, and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor project progress, identify potential issues or obstacles, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, permits, and standards.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to project team members and clients.
- Foster positive relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data using advanced scientific techniques
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field of study
- Write reports, papers, and summaries to communicate research findings
Qualifications
**MUST BE A LICENSED SOIL SCIENTIST IN THE STATE OF NC**
Education:
Hold at least a bachelor of science degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in agricultural, biological, physical, or earth sciences and at least 15 semester hours or an equivalent number of quarter hours in soil science.

High level of knowledge about soils, onsite wastewater systems/septic systems, reversing denied sites, adjusting existing systems to accommodate bedroom additions or pools and working with developers in the subdivision design process.
