The Software Quality Assurance Analyst (#9184) provides independent oversight and support to the James Webb and Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope missions, ensuring all practices outlined in the Quality Assurance Plans for both missions are executed. 

You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to meet ITAR requirements.

This position can support hybrid work. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).

Duties and Responsibilities:

As the Software QA Analyst, you will lead process, procedures and product audits to ensure Quality Assurance Plan results meet required standards.

You will participate in design, code and test reviews; witness testing; provides audit assessments through the generation of audit reports including nonconformance reporting and tracking.  You will recommend and support the implementation of corrective actions; review software technical documentation, and support the overall safety and security for all Science and Operations Center systems. Additional duties include:

  • Plan and schedule audits to ensure Quality Assurance Plan results meet required standards.
  • Collect, analyze and summarize quality control/QA trends and data, preparing and presenting reports on those findings.
  • Execute Quality Assurance activities according to Quality Assurance Plans and in collaboration with the Mission Project Managers.
  • Conduct audits, assessments and evaluations through independent analysis to verify compliance to established standards. 
  • Document and track findings and observations to close; escalating unresolved issues to the appropriate management levels.
  • Identify, prioritize, communicate and resolve issues.
  • Review software documentation as assigned by mission office(s) and team leads.
  • Interface with development, integration and test, and operations teams at the Space Telescope Science Institute; NASA; international partners; and observatory contractors to support the effective operation of a mission wide Quality Assurance process.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years Quality Assurance experience in a software environment REQUIRED
  • Planning, preparing, conducting, reporting and following up on audits or assessments.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance best practices, methods and tools as it relates to system and/or software development.
  • Analytic, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Quality Assurance certification(s) preferred
  • Knowledge of NASA’s safety and mission assurance practices is highly desirable

STScI will consider additional relevant education or experience for the stated qualifications.

Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. This role has a budgeted annual salary of $70-95k.
