The Planner Selection team is responsible for resolving ultimate questions that the planner is facing: out of the many candidates that upstream generate, which trajectory is the best in terms of the current cost sets? This supports the planning team to tackle the decision making and trajectory planning task such as:
- Design different categories of costs to describe ego trajectory's progress, comfort, safety, human likeness and other costs that can make ego pick the best trajectory in different driving scenarios.
- Help Identify issues when upstream candidate has headroom to improve;
- Survey industrial and literature advancements in motion planning and machine learning, leverage the technicals to improve the selection stack and beyond.
As a Tech Lead and manager, you will also
- Align on planner team objective with planner lead and design the key tasks and missions for the selection team;
- Own technical decisions and participate in important technical discussions that ensure the correct direction of technical advance in the planner team. Examples like code reviews, design reviews, technical discussions and so on;
- Design and implement shared infrastructure and tooling among the Behaviors teams. Identify opportunities to unify approaches and increase developer velocity.
- Identify opportunities to accelerate planner timing.
- Mentor junior members within but not limited to the foundation & eval team.
