The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Entry Level engineering talent, to join the Auto Modernization journey. We are building the first scalable Insurance Auto Insurance product on Guidewire with integrations to multiple on premises and off premises vendors and creating unified Digital experience for our membership. Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $61,110.00 - $116,800.00
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

What you'll do:
- Under direct supervision, design, develop, code, and test technical solutions.
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis.
- Verify and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques.
- Improve application stability and scalability.
- Create and maintain technical documentation
- Create and improve automated tests and code quality
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What you have:
- Bachelor's Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT)
- Up to 2 years of software development experience.
- Foundational and conceptual knowledge of function/discipline and demonstrated application of knowledge, skills, and abilities towards work products.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
- Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What sets you apart:
- Familiarity with Cloud technologies in AWS Cloud including IaC, IAM, EKS, SQS, Fargate, Lambda, S3, RDS, Secrets Manager, Qlik, Macie and Datadog.
- Hands on experience in Java Rest Services using Spring Boot , REACT
- Up to 2 years of CICD experience and building and maintaining software delivery pipelines using tools such as Gitlab and testing automation using JUnit/Mockito/Spring Test/Wiremock/Jest
- Up to 2 years of hands on experience with Openshift on-prem deployments and EKS deployments in AWS into production
- Troubleshooting applications and basic application monitoring techniques.
- Knowledge of SQL/ Database technologies
- US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner [optional]
