Software Developer Intern

Westat's 11-week summer internship experiences will be hosted virtually, or on-site at our U.S. office-based locations. Our interns can expect to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
The program will begin on Monday, June 3, 2024, and end by August 16, 2024. During the summer internship program, you will be assigned a project deliverable and will present during the final week of the program. You will also attend educational programs and networking events.
Job Summary: 
Westat is seeking a Software Developer Intern to work in our Atlanta Office. In this role you will gain hands-on experience with web development and user interface design by collaborating with experienced front-end developers to contribute to the design and implementation of web applications.
This position has a flexible work arrangement to work onsite at our Atlanta office 3 days/week and 2 days/week from your home office.
Job Responsibilities: 
    Assist in the development of responsive and visually appealing user interfaces for web applications.
    Collaborate with the development and user experience design teams to translate wireframes to high quality code.
    Gain proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to create interactive and dynamic web pages.
    Participate in design discussion and provide input on user interface. 
    Conduct thorough testing of web applications to identify and fix bugs and issues.
    Collaborate with back-end developers, designers, and other cross-functional teams to deliver engaging and intuitive user interfaces.
Basic Qualifications: 
    Currently enrolled in an Associate degree program or Bachelor's degree program or equivalent experience. 
Preferred Qualifications:
    Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in computer science, web development, or a related field. 
    Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
    Familiarity with front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.

    A keen eye for design and attention to detail. 
    Demonstrated communication skills
    Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
    Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies. 
    Collaboration with teams, managers and/or clients.
