The Software Developer is responsible for the design, code, and testing of software programs and applications that enable Agent, Client, and Associate facing technologies and capabilities for SECURA Insurance. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. All experience levels will be considered with the job title adjusted accordingly.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop solutions within the application integrations team
- Deploy JEE based solutions into industry-leading container/application server environments
- Analyze, design, program, test, and implement systems to fulfill business needs or problems, utilizing all phases of the system development life cycle (SDLC)
- Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and applications according to specifications
- Monitor application, including setting alerts to maintain the stability of the environment and application, monitoring error logs, and automating administration tasks wherever possible
- Perform assigned project tasks in a highly interactive team environment while maintaining a productive and positive atmosphere
- Stay current with P&C insurance knowledge and industry technology and utilize that knowledge with existing productivity tools, standards, and procedures to contribute to the cost-effective operation of the department and company
- Participate in the 24x7 on-call support rotation
QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems or associates degree with equivalent experience
- At least 2 years of programming experience in an object-oriented language, preferably Java or .NET
- Understanding of messaging and APIs, including XML, JSON, SOAP, and REST,
- Knowledge about various architectures and protocols such as MOM, XSLT, SOA, UDDI, EDA, FTP and WSDL
- Experience in Java, Javascript, SQL, XML, XSLT, Web Services, GIT/MAVEN
- Working knowledge of database structure, design, and access methods
- Demonstrated eagerness to learn
- Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Good organization/prioritization skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, yet maintain quality work
PREFERRED:
- Experience with a customer portal application, AgencyPort by Duck Creek
- Experience supporting third party applications in the insurance industry
- Experience with an ESB, Mulesoft platform is a plus
- Experience with Web Services
- Experience with web based application development
- Basic knowledge of SQL Server and DB2 databases including stored procedures
- A working knowledge of Azure
- Familiar with TeamCity, Jenkins, GitHub Action
- Experience with IIS or Apache
