The Biological and Chemical Technologies Group addresses significant current and emerging national security challenges using advanced biological and chemical technologies. The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group is in search of an innovative and highly motivated Data Architect to execute and expand our efforts in architecting software solutions to develop platforms that support end to end development and validation of AI models for medical and health domains.
As a technical staff in this area, you will lead the effort to create and advise data solutions for ongoing efforts, while at the same time advise sponsors across the US Government to define and deliver on data management solutions to support an AI ready enterprise. You will lead and inspire a team of software developers and data engineers, work hand in hand with data scientists, and domain experts in biology, chemistry, and signal processing to address key national stakeholder needs and further the Group's mission by developing and delivering the next generation software and information architectures for biomedical solutions.

You are results-driven and bring strong Data Architecture and engineering skills and a deep understanding of modern technologies including data lakes, polystores, APIs, AI, and ML. You are a person of high integrity, who believes in challenging the status quo when needed, while always first seeking to understand.
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, or related scientific field or equivalent experience in technical analysis. In lieu of a Ph.D., a master's or bachelor's degree with relevant experience (5 + for master's, 10+ for bachelor's) is acceptable
- Strong thought leadership in pursuit of modern Data Architecture principals and technology modernization
- Expertise architecting and developing solutions in AWS, and emergent stacks such as Databricks and Snowflake (data engineering)
- Exposure and understanding of advanced analytics techniques using ML and AI
- Hands on experience with data technologies on cloud
- Strong experience architecting big data solutions using Data Lake, Data Warehouse, Data Products
- Champion of data technologies in areas of data integration, data harmonization and AI/ML
- Experience modernizing data technology and information architecture on cloud
- Experience in data streaming technologies
- Experience in Data Modeling, Governance and Data Management
- Experience with specific DevOps and MLOps (Machine Learning) practices
- Organizational and transformational experience in an agile operating model
- Establishes strategic technology direction and architecture vision for an organization
- Strong proven Software Engineering experience
- Developed technology target state, roadmaps that aligned to short- and long-term goals
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement
- Must be passionate about technology transformations
- Has hands on experience in the last 3 years
- Good understanding of security
- Demonstrated development and clear presentation of technical materials to a wide spectrum of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Occasional travel (<10%) with optional opportunities for travel.
- Experience with biological and healthcare data a plus.
- Demonstrated skills in scientific writing
