Job Description
Reporting directly to the Supervising Social Worker (Level V), the SHOW Social Worker level IV carries out protocols identified for the mental health and substance use treatment of adult designated patients. These protocols will include provisions for clinical management of cases, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate record-keeping as well as other services determined by the SHOW supervising Social Worker of designee.
General tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Provides clinical oversight of all SHOW Social Workers, Addiction Counselors, and Peers.
- Consulting with the Supervising Social Worker, provides direct supervision and guidance to the SHOW Social Worker/counselor and peer staff, and reviews staff work.
- Establishes and maintains professional Social Worker/Counselor standards of performance concerning interview techniques, methods, and practices used in preparing clinical assessments, developing plans of care, and in documenting case histories; engages in patient care as needed.
- Guides SHOW Behavioral Health staff in exercising appropriate patient engagement and outreach techniques, methods, and practices; engages in patient care as needed.
- Interprets clinical information based on case data, histories, statistics, etc.; prepares and submits comprehensive reports of case findings including chronologies of medical data and social factors necessary to support recommended courses of action.
- Interacts with professionals in other disciplines to determine and direct patient level of care and location as well as changes to the treatment approach as necessary.
- Provide and document clinical supervision toward advanced Social Work/Counselor licensure in alignment with the all relevant professional standards and practices, and in accordance with all applicable NYS licensure laws.
- Develops and maintains internal administrative controls of a program area to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, rules and regulations and with NYC Health + Hospitals regulations.
- Prepares reports on staff operations and makes recommendations regarding policies or procedures to facilitate improved services, increased patient satisfaction and better patient outcomes.
- Participates in the development and integration of community social services.
- May provide on-site support and coverage for roving Social Worker or other staff as needed.
- Has extensive knowledge of mental health and/or substance use assessment, treatment, and psychoeducation and provides interventions for individuals experiencing a mental health and/or substance use issue.
- Has experience providing services to unhoused populations, and crisis mental health treatment in a community setting
- Provides information to supervisees about community resources and develops appropriate aftercare plans such as coordinating appropriate referral(s) to treatment, linking to financial counseling and housing services as needed, including the provision of relevant information about professional services, community resources, and appropriate follow-up communication.
- Oversees the provision of opioid overdose education, including Narcan kits and fentanyl test strips
- Assumes other responsibilities and duties, including the provision of clinical coverage in other service settings as assigned by the SHOW Supervisor or designee.
Department Preferences
- 3 Years supervisory experience
- Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC)
- Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments with competing priorities
- Ability to work well independently
