Position Focus:
Licensed Mental Health Clinician position available within Yale Department of Psychiatry's Juvenile Justice Mental Health program in Hamden, CT. Position entails providing assessment and treatment to court-involved adolescent/emerging adult males in the REGIONS program.
Essential Duties
1. Plans and coordinates services for family and group therapy programs, parent groups and discharge programs.2. Provides direct psychotherapeutic treatment to severely ill individuals and families and supervises other assigned staff members.3. Completes psychosocial assessments, mental status examinations, and diagnostic assessments and translates this information into medically necessary, multidisciplinary treatment plans.4. Provides individual and group therapy consistent with evidence-based practice protocols for primary mental health, addiction, and co-occurring populations.5. Develops new techniques for family treatment and clinical supervision of students. Anticipates problems and determines priorities.6. Evaluates treatment progress and presents findings and recommendations for change at treatment team meetings.7. Coordinates and provides clinical case management services, including referrals to appropriate levels of care.8. Provides crisis intervention and clinical triage to facilitate necessary services, such as inpatient hospitalization, when indicated.9. Researches, develops and implements programs which enhance both inpatient and outpatient services of unit. Monitors discharge status of patients.10. Collaborates with families, medical and clinical staff, administrators, insurance agencies, etc. to assure their integration into the treatment planning process, as indicated.11. Supervises a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees.12. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Master's Degree in Social Work and two years of experience in a psychiatric care setting or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
Required Skill/Ability 1:
Ability to provide clinical assessment and diagnosis for adolescents using the DSM 5.
Required Skill/Ability 2:
Ability to complete detailed psychosocial assessments and multi-disciplinary treatment plans and document within an electronic medical record.
Required Skill/Ability 3:
Ability to assess and treat adolescents with mental health, substance use and/or behavioral problems using evidence-based and best practices, with an emphasis on improving an adolescent’s well being through the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Required Skill/Ability 4:
Ability to provide training and consultation to clinical and residential staff in accordance with the Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) model.
Required Skill/Ability 5:
Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Master's Degree in Social Work or related field and two years of experience in a psychiatric care setting or the equivalent combination of experience and education. CT LCSW or CT LPC required.
Required Licenses or Certifications
State of Connecticut Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or State of Connecticut Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
