Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.

With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 18 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.

Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college’s transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation. MCC is nationally recognized for its liberal arts and occupational programs.

The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $44 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 56 Associate degree programs and 29 certificate programs.

The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center for Higher Education, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, and the Art & Music Center.

Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon and extension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: up to $47,500 - Depending on experience

General Description:

Work closely with Muskegon Community College’s day-to-day Social Media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. Keep abreast of Social Media trends and competition. Develop innovative and creative media content across all platforms. Source content for MCC’s Social Media and other promotional materials. Assist in the College’s marketing efforts as a member of the Marketing & Communications team.

Required Skills

Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

1.Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field required, and a minimum of two years of related employment experience preferred.

2.Demonstrated excellence in both oral and written communication skills.

3.Experience with photography, videography, and graphic design preferred.

4.Create, edit, publish, and share original content (text, images, video, photographs etc.)

5.Demonstrated successful Social Media campaign development, maintenance, analytics, strategy, and reputation management experience.

6.In-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms, e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube, their respective participants, and how each platform can be utilized in different scenarios.

7.Demonstrated ability to relate in person and online to people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds, especially in an online environment.

8.Demonstrated success in marketing strategy development and implementation.

9.Ability to maintain relevance on all Social Media platforms as they progress and evolve.

10.Ability to confidently and successfully both work within a team and also to lead team members in a variety of capacities, e.g., content development, creation and editing of content, online reputation management.

11.Possess necessary social customer service techniques, such as empathy, patience, advocacy, and conflict resolution.

12.Ability to identify potential negative or crisis situations and to apply conflict resolution principles to mitigate issues.

13.Demonstrated project management skills, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and a strong awareness of brand management.

14.Demonstrated use of tact, judgment, and discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

15.Highly motivated, solution-oriented with integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the College.

16.Ability to identify and report scams within Social Media platforms.

17.Requires prolonged sitting or standing, keyboarding and working on computer (hand/eye strain), speaking in and communicating in English via phone or in person.

Essential Function:

1.Innovatively create, curate, and manage Social Media, e.g., images, video, and written content, including integrated marketing campaigns.

2.Effectively monitor Social Media while cultivating leads, enrollment, and community support or partnerships.

3.Promote, attend, and photograph College events and activities.

4.Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies and ensure that all communications are on message and support the College’s brand management goals.

5.Conduct online advocacy and open a stream for cross-promotions.

6.Develop and expand community and/or influencer thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, and blogs, etc.

7.Design, create, and manage promotions and social ad campaigns.

8.Manage efforts to build online reviews and reputation.

9.Analyze key metrics and adjust strategies as needed.

10.Compile results into meaningful reports, analyze social advertising campaigns, and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising Social Media content.

11.Engage in dialogues and answer questions promptly.

12.Develop organizational elements to implement a proactive process for capturing happy and loyal students, alumni, parents, and community members’ online reviews.

13.Coach others on content development, creation, editing, and online reputation management.

14.Report notable threats to appropriate leadership.

15.Maintain inventory of all promotional material promptly.

16. Analyze and adjust to Social Media trends and competition.

17.Maintain relevant Social Media and marketing campaigns targeting students, alumni, parents, and community members.

18.Perform all other duties as assigned.
