SNUG is an evidence-based violence reduction initiative that works with community residents, businesses and community-based organizations to implement strategies to reduce and prevent shootings and killings in communities with high rates of violent crimes.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Establish and maintain relationships with students, families, and community members to identify at-risk youth and potential sources of conflict.
- Intervene in high-risk disputes between students, employing mediation and de-escalation techniques to prevent conflicts from escalating to violence.
- Connect at-risk students and their families with appropriate resources and services, including education assistance, mental health support, job readiness training, and other community-based programs.
- Serve as a mentor and positive role model for at-risk students, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to help them make positive life choices.
- Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and awareness campaigns focused on gun violence prevention and community safety.
- Collaborate with the SNUG team, teachers, and administrators to develop and implement targeted interventions and support plans for at-risk students.
- Provide immediate support to students and their families in the aftermath of violent incidents, offering emotional support and connecting them with appropriate services.
- Maintain accurate records of interactions with students and families, documenting interventions, outcomes, and follow-up actions taken.
- Participate in training sessions provided by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (NYS DCJS) and FCA, enhancing skills in conflict resolution, community outreach, and trauma-informed care.
Qualifications and Requirements Include:
High School Diploma/GED Required
Experience working with at-risk youth in community or school settings.
Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
Valid New York State driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history.
Schedule:
Full Time, 35 hours per week Monday-Friday
