Slitter Operator

• High School or GED Equivalent
• Basic Mathematics skills
• Ability to read and write English Language
• Ability to understand and use Safety Rules and Procedures as well as OSHA standards and regulations
• Must exercise a reasonable degree of judgment and possess the ability to recognize appropriate company policies that apply in each situation and follow them.
• Must be able to read measuring tape and caliper

The Slitter Operator performs advanced production activities requiring a demonstrated high level of skill and proficiency in material handling, production processes and multiple machine operation acquired through extended experience and training.

• Review sales orders and set line up to produce metal per sales request, double check the parts to ship.
• Set up line to produce cuts per customers' specifications.
• Ensure all quality inspections are being done throughout the production process.
• Update and record completed work orders in the computer
• Select correct material for the job according to work order
• Positions work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines)
• Uses gauges, calipers, squares, or rulers for measurement
• Reviews work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications
• Sets up and aligns specified material or other fixtures in machine bed using gauges, templates, shims, or hand tools
• Adjusts controls to set depth, and feed sheets
• Performs quality control inspections on finished product. For ISO-certified, performs In Process Quality Inspections
• Diagnoses problems and makes necessary adjustments and removes scrap from machine
• Coordinates and executes material handling to be processed including operation of overhead crane
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation
• Restocks material
• May mark identification on material before processing
• May mark material after processing; store material for additional processing and/or shipping
• Stacks, bands, and palletizes finished products for shipment to customers
• Adheres to Reliance Steel and Aluminum's Code of Conduct as well as customer confidentiality requirements.
• Must be available to work from the Metals USA facility
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
• This position is not work-from-home eligible.
