Position Overview:

The Residential Skills Trainer (RST) works within the Recovery and Person-Centered Strengths model supporting the implementation of the Service Plan. The RST provides individualized case management and skills training services consistent with the individual’s Personal Recovery/Service Plan with specific focus on skill acquisition, building and repairing natural supports and community integration. The RST works with social services agencies and community partners to ensure that the individual recovery goals are met.

Essential Job Functions:

Main Duties:

  • Delivers therapeutic services using evidence based/promising or best practice approaches with individuals, families, natural supports and groups as determined by the individuals in the treatment plan.
  • Practices using Hope Inducing Behaviors.
  • Coordinate services and communication with community providers as appropriate. Facilitate obtaining PCP, other medical assistance, housing, employment, socialization, money management, therapy and fiscal benefits.
  • Provide psychoeducation activities with individuals, family members/natural supports.
  • Ability to provide skills training and case management to individuals, families and group.
  • Completes accurate, timely clinical documentation of the highest quality and consistent with agency standards, rules and regulations.
  • Ability to consistently meet individual service hours and timely documentation standards.
  • Provide crisis prevention and intervention services which may include responsibility for rotation on 24/7 support phone. Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to apply mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology. Ability to implement skills development strategies, and identify, implement and coordinate the services and supports identified in the Service Plan.
  • Ability to work using Recovery and Person-Centered Strengths principles.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, community partners and families/natural supports.
  • Knowledge intervention and treatment methods, strategies and techniques.
  • Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member in a positive and productive manner.
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check

Physical Requirements:

The ability to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • This position requires spending a majority of the workday standing and walking, with occasional sitting.
  • Use of hands, wrists and fingers and lifting or moving up to 25lbs.
  • Movements such as stooping, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing and reaching are occasionally required.
  • Noise and/or level of distractions in the work environment is moderate.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
  • Talk, hear and communicate with clients and put client’s symptoms and functioning in the context of their mental illness.
  • Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.

Education/Experience:

  • Must meet qualifications for a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Bachelor’s Degree in human/social services field (social work, public or community health, psychology) or related field or 3 years of experience working in human services.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License and good driving record.
