Job Summary
The Position of Gould Ski Patrol Coach works as part of a team to manage on-hill risk, execute mountain rescues, respond to medical emergencies, provide a safe and welcoming environment to the public, support and educate Gould Students in the profession of patrolling. Exercises sound judgment while executing the essential functions of the position.
The Position promotes a strong student-centered approach that exemplifies a respectful, inclusive and dynamic environment.

Works closely with Gould students, Gould Ski Patrol Director, Coaches, Faculty and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains expert ski/snowboard ability and exercises caution while skiing or riding on duty:
- Sets a positive and confidence-inspiring skiing/riding example for the public and Gould Students
- Safely skis or rides any mapped terrain in openable to marginal conditions without ski poles and while
- Carrying tools or equipment
- Safely and confidently completes work-related tasks in ski or snowboard boots, both on and off skis or snowboard
- Understands and reliably performs on hill risk mitigation procedures:
- Inspects lifts on every ride and reports hazards or evidence of wear to Area Foreman or Lift Director
- Maintenance personnel
- Performs trail check procedures on every run according to best practices
- Understands, implements, and maintains hazard marking practices and devices
- Effectively and immediately communicates trail conditions and hazards to Area Foreman
- Confidently and reliably ties all knots related to the risk management program
- Uses tools including power drills, shovels, saws, and various hand tools to address hazards or for sign, marking, and fence construction, placement, and maintenance
- Attentively and carefully performs trail closing procedures
- Safely and confidently manages rescue toboggans and performs mountain rescue procedures:
- Manages unloaded and loaded toboggans on any mapped terrain in openable conditions
- Tail ropes and body belays on any mapped terrain in openable conditions
- Uses ropes, carabiners, and pulleys in special rescue situations, such as skiers over the bank
- Loads and unloads lifts with toboggans using minimal help
- Completes snowmobile tows up common routes
- Problem solves common issues with toboggans
- Moves toboggans into and out of sled sheds using minimal help
- Requests assistance with toboggan management and rescue procedures when terrain, conditions, or situation is appropriate
- Confidently and reliably ties all knots related to the mountain rescue program
- Communicates professionally and effectively with guests, coworkers, vendors, and community members:
- Educates guests and students in accident prevention, rules and regulations, and proper use of equipment
- Works to find answers to all students questions
- Manages people in stressful situations
- Works as an effective and professional part of a team; contributes positive and respectful energy to the group dynamic
- Provides and assists with assessment and care of sick and injured people within our Standard of Care:
- Assesses, triages, and treats sick and injured guests, team members, vendors, and community members
- Appropriately and immediately communicates findings and resource needs
