Site Health & Safety Officer

Our Health & Safety Group at Haley & Aldrich is currently seeking a Site Health & Safety Officer to work on a challenging and complex environmental remediation project. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team of H&S professionals across the country who demonstrate that safety is one of Haley & Aldrich's core values. This is a full-time position and will be staffed on a job site in Arizona or can be virtual.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:

  • Observe all construction activities to ensure safe work approaches and or to identify unsafe acts/conditions.
  • Prepare daily paperwork and reports (i.e. calibration log, daily monitoring log, daily tailgate, daily field reports, permits, and job hazard analyses).
  • Participate in, and support delivery of the daily safety "tailgate" meetings.
  • Support the development and delivery of site-specific training, as required, and any additional Health & Safety training required of staff to perform the function of their jobs.
  • Support personal air monitoring program, as necessary.
  • Support the maintenance of H&S field equipment, such as calibrating air monitors (i.e. Combustible Gas Meter, PID, dust monitors) and site-specific PPE.
  • Support industrial hygiene and worker exposure monitoring, communicate results and is responsible for record keeping.
  • Review Daily JHAs, permits and other H&S documentation to ensure they are complete and address hazards specific to the site and tasks being performed.
  • Conduct weekly/daily site assessments and equipment/tool inspections.
  • Participate in project planning and engineering discussions to ensure Health & Safety has been considered.
  • Provide regulatory and compliance support, as needed, to ensure work is done in compliance with regulatory, company, and client expectations.
  • Work with contractor's H&S representative(s) to develop, implement, and improve Job Hazard Analyses, as well as Health and Safety Plan Addendums.
  • Work with crew members to build Behavior Based Safety program, including submission of safety observations, incident reporting, and follow-up.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly site assessment documents and safety statistics recap forms.
  • Participate in and/or lead incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Track audit findings and corrective actions to closure.
  • Ensure emergency response with the facility and local first responders has been adequately coordinated. Support and participate in any emergency response training drills necessary.
  • Spend ~90% of the time in the work zone(s) of the project site observing Health & Safety conditions.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related program, with a focus on Construction Safety and a minimum of five years' experience in the Health & Safety field. Or a minimum of seven years of related Health & Safety experience focused on Construction Safety.
  • Experience in industrial hygiene is a plus.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols highly preferred.
  • Experience with landfill construction techniques and closure operations highly preferred.
  • Must have strong written, verbal and telephone communication skills, particularly the ability to produce accurate and concise field notes.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in industry standard software (i.e. Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
  • Recognized certification such as CHST, ASP, CSP, CHMM, CIH strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted.
  • Current OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER training and certification highly preferred.
  • OSHA Standards for the Construction Industry (OSHA 510) highly preferred.
  • Willing and able to travel to job sites and on temporary out-of-town assignments as needed.
