Shop Technician
Reports to: Operations Manager
This position supports our in field staff by keeping or equipment running and safe. The Mechanic analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs a variety of vehicles and small equipment. (F150-F550 trucks, Exmark-Honda-Sthil lawn care equipment, and CAT/Bobcat construction equipment.) Must be ablet to oversee 1 additional Shop Technician and manage the workflow.
Responsibilities
- Able to work alone and prioritize workload with minimal guidance.
- Perform a “wet” service on all equipment and vehicles in the fleet.
- Repair and service small engine equipment. Stihl, Honda, Exmark.
- Diagnose basic electrical and hydraulic systems
- Ability to carry out brake inspections on company trailers and trucks. Technician must be able to do pad swap, drums, and rotor replacements.
- Ability to use diagnostic code reader for vehicles and troubleshoot basic vehicle issues
- Wire-feed welding in order to repair/install accessories on company vehicles and equipment as needed
- Must be able to make repairs to equipment in a jobsite environment
- Proactively manage seasonal calendar of equipment rebuilds to ensure equipment is prepared and in good working condition for time of use.
- Responsible for communicating status updates of assets to managers
- Provide recommendations to Operations Manager regarding equipment decisions such as when to repair or replace, whether to fix in-house or outsource, or evaluating the type or repair (“band-aid” or complete repair)
- Must be self-motivated, able to work alone and meet project deadlines
- Expected be flexible for emergency situations including during holidays and inclement weather (snow/ice)
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years' small equipment mechanic experience. Formal education and/or training can substitute for some work experience.
- Experience with fleet automotive repair
- Must have your own professional roll around tool box.
- Willingness to observe all safety precautions and protections
- Possession of a valid & insurable driver's license.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires the employee to be in awkward positions including on the ground, under equipment, bent over, or twisted configurations at times
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Work occasionally will need to be outdoors in potentially hot, cold, or wet environments
- Work schedule may vary due to season, but most of the season is a “swing shift” working mid-day into the evening
Physical Requirements:
- The employee is regularly required to see, stand, walk, bend, crouch/squat, reach, and use hands up to 8 hours per day
- The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, and pull from 10 to 100 pounds, depending on the situation
