Commercial Truck & Trailer Repair is seeking an experienced Shop Foremanfor 2nd shift.

Primary Objectives

• Provide leadership and assist in the effort to manage and maintain the efficiency, professionalism, and profitability of the service department.
• Provide direct supervision for the service technicians.
• Ensure that the customer’s needs are met.
• Maintain high standards for quality repairs in the service department.

Accountability

• Reports to Service Manager.
• Provides direction to service technicians.
• Interacts with the shop managers, service advisors, parts manager and parts personnel and technicians.

Primary Responsibilities and Job Tasks

• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of products and be capable of informing customers of applicable repairs.
• Enforce company safety protocols.
• Assist in answer incoming calls to the Service Department.
• Assist setting up appointments for service customers.
• Assist assembling quotes when requested by customers.
• Assist writing up customer repair orders.
• Contact customers to inform them of additional repairs needed or unexpected delays.
• Secure customer’s authorization for any additional work required. Document the customer contact on the repair order.
• Review repair order invoices with the customer and collect payment.
• Initiate proper paper flow for all service documentation originated on your shift.
• Inspect all jobs for completeness and review all repair orders to determine completeness, and clarity.
• Prepare repair orders for closing by reviewing parts and labor time entries, making any necessary adjustments, and writing the job story.
• Close all cash repair orders completed on your shift.
• Monitor Vis Check inspections, develop a quote on repairs needed including labor and parts prices, review the quote with the customer and close all repair orders generated from Vis Check inspections completed on your shift.
• Follow up on parts orders needed to complete repairs and consult with customer on any additional repairs needed or unexpected delays.
• Supervise the technicians, ensuring that each technician has the direction and resources needed to complete their job in a timely manner.
• Disseminate information to all technicians on your shift concerning product changes, product updates, observed failure patterns, departmental repair issues, safety issues and any other information that will make a technician more productive and better able to perform his/her job duties in an efficient and professional manner.
• Provide a positive impact on the lost and idle time of the second shift technicians.
• Maintain the service schedule for all technicians with priority given to appointments and carryovers.
• Coordinate and assign workload to technicians, being conscience of technician’s abilities and training. A balance between efficiency and challenging a technician’s ability with an eye toward personal development should be met whenever possible.
• Help technicians diagnose failures and suggest possible repair procedures. Direct and provide instruction on technician’s repair procedures when needed.
• Provide direction and instruction to inexperienced technicians as needed.
• Keep abreast of the progress on all repairs performed by the technicians to update customers on progress and prepare for assigning next job upon completion. The Shop Foreman is responsible for fulfilling the repair commitments made to the customer.
• Determine specialty tool requirements and repair needs and facilitate the purchase and/or repair.
• Provide direction to technicians on facility housekeeping.
• Inform Service Manager of potential problem areas and/or customer concerns.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
