JOB SUMMARY:
Shop Welder and Fabricator
Prime Functions
· Lays out, fits, and welds fabricated sheet metal components to assemble structural forms of Hollow Metal door frames.
· Set-up, operate and maintain welding and cutting equipment to welds parts, using gas-shielded arc (MIG/GMAW) welding equipment and plasma cutting machine. Connects weld cables and adjusts welding power unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as needed. Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and shielding gas cylinders. Changes wire and adjusts feed rate, tension and gas flow on wire feed units.
· Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig fixture. Places and moves blocking, braces and jigs to hold parts. Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. Pull pry bars to align parts.
· Welds in flat, horizontal and vertical positions. Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to for specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of material, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
· Grinds welds flush and smooth, with proper feathering of welded/ground area to flat surfaces. Clean and prep of frames for prime paint by removing weld spatter and grinding dust. Fill excessive gaps at fit up of frames, stops with caulk as needed.
· Set-up and operate various bench and hand power tools including bench and hand grinders, cut-off saws, band saw and plasma cutting torch.
· Transports materials, tools and supplies. Maintains clean work area, machines, tools, and equipment. Safe operation of stand-up and traditional fork lifts for movement of materials.
· Work safely and maintaining consistent quality of work at efficient productivity rates to achieve production schedule for customer requirements. Ability to balance and achieve positive results in the areas of safety, quality, productivity and cost.
· Identify and obtain pertinent information from shop orders, shop drawings and frames regarding prepping, assembly and welding requirements of door frames.
· Maintain accurate paper work and record keeping.
· Effectively communicate with supervisory lead people, HM office personnel and other shop personnel. Actively participate in process design and improvement activities.
· Maintains and wears all required safety and health personal protective equipment (PPE) in the manner recommended by the equipment manufacturer.
Willing to train and learn how to machine wood doors for commercial hardware. Includes working with woodworking power tools in a controlled shop environment.
· Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner. Complies with safety regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Able to stand, walk, and operate power tools and hand tools for long periods of time
· Able to lift 100lbs minimum
· Able to communicate in a friendly and professional manner to customers and team members.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and customers.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks with impeccable organizational skills
· Carpentry, millwork, or door hardware experience a major bonus
· Able to work in a team environment, but also work with minimal supervision
· Willingness to expand knowledge and job duties as needed for the success of the team
