Pay Grade: $450/week
Position Summary:
Shooting Specialists at Camp Woodie oversee all Shooting activities and are the secondary caregivers for our campers. They are responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out our shooting activities, as well as guiding campers in their personal and spiritual growth and daily living skills.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assume full responsibility, especially safety, for all assigned shooting activities.
- Maintain high standards of safety and health in all activities for campers.
- Daily maintenance and cleaning of all shooting equipment including firearms, ranges and throwers.
- Serving as the Range Officer for all rifle and shotgun firing.
- Assist with facilitation and scoring of the Top-Gun competition.
- Ensuring that the Counselors-In-Leadership-Training assigned to the Shooting Sports area receive meaningful and relevant experiences.
- Ensuring an adequate supply of all materials necessary for the execution of the Shooting Sports program and reporting to the Program Lead with any inadequacies in the inventories.
- Be a positive role model to campers and staff in all aspects of their work – set a good example to campers and other staff in regards to general camp procedures and practices including: safety, sportspersonship, schedule, and sanitation.
- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Provide outstanding and consistent customer service to all camp guests.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Responsible for strict adherence to policies and procedures related to safety and other regulations.
- All other duties as assigned by the Camp Leadership Team.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR before the summer (will be provided if needed).
- Successful participation and completion of staff training prior to beginning of camp.
- Able to observe camper behaviors, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate management techniques, as well as enforce appropriate safety and emergency procedures to the situation.
- Proven ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of responsibility; strong interpersonal skills; possess high degree of integrity.
- Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others.
- Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
- Proven skills in communication, organization, and human relations.
- Willingness to work with diverse populations.
- Exemplify the values of “Respect yourself, Respect others, and Respect Camp Woodie”.
Education and Experience:
- Working on high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years old
Physical Requirements:
- Lead and participate in recreational activities which may include running, throwing, kicking & shooting.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental threats related to weather and program activities.
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver weights of up to 50lbs.
- Physical ability to respond to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of staff.
- Endurance including: prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching
- Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities
- Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities
- Requires daily exposure to the sun, heat, insect and animals.
