SUMMARY:

Supervise all activity relating to the Shipping department to assure the products are accurately selected, packaged, and prepared for shipment.

DUTIES:
  • Supervise shipping team to assure they are performing the essential functions of their jobs.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving problems.
  • Coordinate with UPS, FedEx, and other freight carriers to pick up and ship to customers taking into consideration the most efficient method and customer expectations.
  • Apply accurate postage on UPS & FedEx shipments and complete Manifests and/or Bill of Lading
  • Maintain equipment required for the shipping process, including shipping carts, pallet jacks, computers, printers, and other shipping department equipment
  • Coordinate, or works with supervisors, Production Manager, Customer Service Representatives, and shipping team.
  • Company contact person for UPS, Fed Ex, and other shipping firms, to resolve problems relating to tracking, delivery, etc.
  • Supervise employees to improve productivity, reduce errors and meet safety/health goals.
  • Maintain timekeeping system on employees.
  • Interview, select, hire, and train employees.
  • Complete performance appraisals and meet with employees to suggest areas needing improvement and acknowledge areas where the employee is achieving or exceeding objectives. Recommend wage adjustments.
  • Administer disciplinary action in coordination with the Production Manager
  • Be familiar with and apply aspects of the ISO Quality System that pertains to the Shipping Dept.
  • Perform duties of shipping team member roles when necessary
  • Manage imported shipments (truck, rail, ocean, air) and provide corresponding paperwork.
  • Identify, research and analyze compliance issues as they arise.
  • Prepare export documentation for international shipments, including documents relating to NAFTA, export declarations, etc.
  • Evaluate, analyze and assign applicable HS codes to new and existing products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Production Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience in Shipping in manufacturing.
  • Experience with International Shipping process
  • Must have strong computer and keyboarding skills.

SPECIAL SKILLS OR ABILITIES

  • Language Skills: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret general information pertaining to the job. Must be able to write documents and reports required for the job. Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform basic math skills
  • Reasoning Ability: Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Must have the ability to apply information, and variables, learned from one task, or project, to other similar situations.
  • Quality Skills: Be familiar with basic ideas and principles behind quality tools such as Statistical Process Control (SPC & 5 Why’s) and other quality tools that can help improve production in your work area.

EQUIPMENT USED:

Box taping machine, shipping carts, & pallet jacks, computer, printers, calculator, telephone, copier, fax, and other equipment as needed.
