Job description


The Riverside County Sheriff's Office is seeking to fill multiple Records/Warrants Assistant I/II positions to perform specialized clerical duties in support of the Information Services Bureau. The incumbent will be responsible for accessing and updating booking charges and other crime statistics in the law enforcement tracking system, understanding specific law enforcement laws, codes, rules, and regulations, and interpreting and applying this knowledge to a variety of legal documents and transactions. Competitive candidates will have clerical experience which includes maintaining specialized law enforcement records.

The incumbent must be able to work all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Sheriff's Records/Warrants Assistant I is distinguished from the Sheriff's Records/Warrants Assistant II classification in that the former works in a training capacity performing the more routine specialized duties and under immediate supervision, learn the more complex and difficult specialized tasks. Upon successful completion of the training period incumbents will be promoted to a Sheriff's Records/Warrants Assistant II.

The law enforcement professionals of the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, with a staff of over 3,600 dedicated men and women, cover the expanse of over 7,300 square miles in southern California. Operate and access a variety of computer systems including, but not limited to, the Sheriff's Records Management System, California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS), Jail Information Management System (JIMS), Riverside Judicial Access, document imaging programs, and the Cal-Photo System.

Enter, update, confirm, and handle all aspects of criminal, civil, juvenile, and protective custody warrants issued by the courts in Riverside County.

Act as the 24-hour contact for Riverside County regarding the restraining order system in CLETS.

Perform entries into CLETS.

Operate office equipment including computer, microfilm, and teletype units; maintain and update files; receive, retrieve and update data.

Process, prepare, and maintain a variety of records and documents; prepare, sort, file, type, and proofread a variety of materials and compose correspondence.

Receive money and issue receipts for reports; respond to inquiries from law enforcement agencies and the general public regarding background checks, reports, criminal history, and a variety of other issues.

Prepare official correspondence and reports.

Verify computer entries to ensure that they correspond with hard copy document information.

Fingerprint members of the public for criminal history record checks using inked-print and digital methods (e.g., LiveScan).

$17.49 - $24.21 Hourly

$3,031.91 - $4,195.56 Monthly

$36,382.94 - $50,346.75 Annually



OPTION I

Experience: Two years of general clerical experience, which must have included one year in the maintenance of specialized law enforcement records.

OPTION II

Certificate: Possession of a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) Academy certificate.

ALL OPTIONS

Knowledge of: Modern office procedures; correct English usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Ability to: Learn complex computerized criminal information software; learn the procedures and details of legal documents pertaining to criminal Records/Warrants; establish effective working relationships with others and communicate tactfully and courteously with the public; accurately perform basic mathematical calculations; follow oral and written directions; process specialized Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) documents; learn applicable law enforcement related codes, rules, regulations, and laws; perform general clerical work.
SHERIFF'S RECORDS/WARRANTS ASSISTANT II

$19.86 - $27.30 Hourly

$3,442.25 - $4,731.66 Monthly

$41,307.00 - $56,779.88 Annually


OPTION I

Experience: Successful completion of the Sheriff Records/Warrants Assistant training program with Riverside County.

OPTION II

Experience: Three years of general clerical and computer experience of which one year involved maintenance of specialized law enforcement records.
Knowledge of: Modern office procedures; correct English usage including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Ability to: Learn complex computerized criminal information software; learn the procedures and details of legal documents pertaining to criminal Records/Warrants; establish effective working relationships with others and communicate tactfully and courteously with the public; accurately perform basic arithmetic computations; follow oral and written directions; process specialized Department of Justice/Federal Bureau of Investigation (DOJ/FBI) documents; learn applicable law enforcement related codes, rules, regulations and laws and perform general clerical work.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

License/Certificate: Possession, and maintenance throughout employment, of a valid California Driver's License.

Must obtain California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) certification within six months of employment.

Prior to appointment, must pass a background check, which includes a polygraph.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The incumbents will be working in a general office environment which may require standing, sitting, talking, and listening for prolonged periods of time. Also, may be required to work mandatory overtime, rotating shifts, and holidays, and may work 10 or 12-hour shifts.
