The Santa Ynez Valley Humane Society in Partnership with Dog Adoption & Welfare Group is a non profit, private shelter providing low cost spay/neuter/dental procedures and vaccinations to the public. In addition, we care for and find adopters for homeless pets. The Mission of our organization is to serve our community by providing and promoting humane, compassionate, and conscientious care of companion animals and preventing their overpopulation, and to further the prevention of cruelty to animals and the enforcement of the laws of the State of California pertaining to the prevention of cruelty to animals.
We are looking for a veterinarian to join our team. The position will consist of a FLEXIBLE schedule. Friendly dogs can come to work!
The veterinarian is responsible for the day to day care of our shelter animals. Duties include performing health examinations on new shelter animals, treating diseases and injuries, identifying and containing infectious diseases, and answering questions regarding herd health and management.
The veterinarian is also responsible for running the public clinic two to three days during the week. This involves examining and insuring public animals are fit for surgery, calculating and administering controlled drugs, performing routine spay and neuter procedures, and complying with DEA regulations including updating the drug log. Experience and/or willingness to learn high quality/high volume surgery load.
Shelter medicine experience is preferred but not required.
The candidate should be efficient in spay and neuter procedures and comfortable responding to surgical complications.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, a license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of California is required.
The perfect candidate for this position is a currently licensed CA Veterinarian who enjoys teamwork, is passionate about shelter/rescue medicine, practices high-quality medicine, and can think outside the box.
