Position Summary:

IEM is looking to form a cadre of Full Time- Shelter Managers to fill our clients’ growing desires for mass care and shelter management initiatives in communities across the country. Are you looking for a job that gives you a strong sense of passion, meaning and purpose?

This role demands adaptability, as it encompasses day shifts, mid shifts, and overnight shifts, all spanning 12-hour durations to support 24-hour operations. Additional overtime opportunities are available, with an expected weekly commitment of 48 hours, and the potential to pick up an additional 12-hour shift each week, dependent upon client needs; you should expect to work possible day, night, weekends, swing shifts and holiday shifts.

After the interview and selection process candidates who are able to start within 72 hours of an offer are preferred.

Primary Location:

  • Job sites will be located across the Denver, Colorado area
  • Majority of all candidates should reside within the Denver, Colorado area, only a select few candidates will be hired from outside this location and asked to deploy to the work sites as needed.
  • All work will be conducted onsite.
  • Jobs sites are subject to change or be added based on client needs and continued employment requires you to be able to work on site.

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be available and willing to travel to multiple locations within the project area and deal with multiple daily work scenarios, thinking quickly on your feet to get the tasks done in a professional manner.
  • If hired outside of Denver, Colorado you will be asked to Deploy to the locations as needed, continued employment with IEM is based on flexibility in travel; deployment travel with IEM is based on and reimbursable in accordance with FTR.
  • Must have personal reliable transportation.

Essential Functions:

  • Staff Management: Schedule and assign tasks to shelter staff, conduct staff orientations and training, address staff issues, provide coaching, and maintain records.
  • Operations Coordination: Communicate with NGOs and shelter staff to address operational needs. Oversee dispatch data procedures and reporting. Ensure staff compliance with check-in and check-out procedures.
  • Resource Allocation: Assign breaks and lunches for shelter staff. Manage shelter resources effectively.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Handle various shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Attention to Detail and Quick Thinking: Maintain a keen eye for detail. Think on your feet and execute tasks proficiently.
  • Professional Composure: Maintain professionalism in high-stress situations and meet strict deadlines.

Current Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience with Vulnerable Populations: Proficient in working with at-risk populations, including refugees, unaccompanied minors, and families seeking asylum status, demonstrating empathy, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication.
  • Rapid Decision-Making: Possess the capability to think critically and make swift, informed decisions. Adapt to rapidly changing and sometimes ambiguous scenarios while adhering to mission requirements.
  • Crisis Response: Demonstrated ability to excel in high-pressure situations by providing immediate support and solutions when needed.
  • Cultural Competence: Exhibit a strong understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and the ability to interact effectively with individuals from various cultures.
  • Effective Communication: Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to convey information, instructions, and updates to team members and stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate seamlessly within a dynamic team, working collectively to achieve mission objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • License: Current and valid driver's license.
  • Three (3) years of experience responding to natural, technological, and human-caused disasters.
  • Mental and Physical Aptitude: Demonstrated ability to meet both mental and physical job requirements, including proficiency with computers and phone applications, as well as effective interaction with the public.
  • Physical Stamina: Capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and the stamina to stand for extended periods as necessary.
  • Safety and Health: Must not present a direct threat or significant risk of substantial harm to oneself or others while performing job duties.
  • Background Checks: Ability to successfully pass a Child Abuse background check, in addition to all relevant state and federal criminal background checks.
  • Eligibility to Work: Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual Proficiency: Highly desired proficiency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate in both languages.
  • Education: Bachelors Degree or higher in a relatable field
  • Deployment Experience: A proven track record of multiple deployments in high-tempo, high-stress environments, including emergency response operations, sheltering operations, and related incident response relief efforts, demonstrating an exceptional level of expertise and adaptability.
  • Novice level of experience in FEMA Public Assistance grant program or other FEMA grant programs
  • Experience working in New FEMA PA Delivery Model
  • Novice level understanding of Public Assistance, 428, 404 and 406 Mitigation.
  • Ability to interpret grant policy and procedures and to read and interpret grant guidelines and contracts
  • Novice level experience using FEMA, State, and Local grants management workflow software and documentation management systems at either the Federal (preferred FEMA), State, and/or Local Recipient/Subrecipient level
  • Professional Registration or Certification including Project Management
