To design, lay out, form, fabricate, install and repair SHEET METAL, fiberglass or other synthetic structures or devices.

Responsibilities*
Select gauge and type of material appropriate for the structure involved.
Design and lay out the structure to be fabricated.
Cut and form fiberglass or other synthetic materials and various types of SHEET METAL, including non-ferrous, iron and steel, using tin snips, hammer and hand or power-driven shearing, rolling, bending, breaking, drilling, forming machines and spot welders and computer numerically controlled (CNC) shop equipment.
Assemble, install and repair structures, including ducts, machine guards, roof gutters, flashing, tanks, cabinets, boxes, blowers, ventilators, air washers, air-conditioners, drainpipes, hoppers, filter housing, roof vents, sinks, troughs and lab hoods, using soldering welding and riveting equipment, portable power drills, power grinders and buffers, files, hoists, scaffolds, and fabricated hangers.
Perform prime coat painting.
Maintain and clean equipment and working area.
Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams sketches and job specifications.
Insulate internal duct work.
Prepare records and service reports of materials and time expended.
Required Qualifications*
Graduation from high school, preferably supplemented by specialized training in the forming and fabrication of SHEET METAL devices.
Reasonable experience in the lay out, forming and fabrication of SHEET METAL structures.
Reasonable knowledge of mathematics, including geometry and algebra.
Considerable knowledge of the equipment, methods and materials used in SHEET METAL work.
Ability to demolish and assemble SHEET METAL supply, return and exhaust ductwork in facilities across campus and the health system. Demolition and assembly activities may include accessing work several feet or stories above the ground.
Ability to work from in areas located at various heights including those located several feet or multiple stories from the ground.
Ability to understand and comply with safety precautions in the operation of power equipment.
Skill in the safe and effective operation of various tools required to assemble, maintain, deconstruct and/or service structures throughout the University.
Ability to accurately understand and interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams in order to ensure the accurate construction, maintenance and/or demolition of structures.
Must be able to perform all the duties in the classification, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Desired Qualifications*
Ability to perform SMAW, MIG and TIG welding on plate and bar stock of various thicknesses and alloys.
AWS D1.1 SMAW certification for 3/8? A-36 steel using E7018 filler.
Experience using CCNC-Controlled industrial equipment.
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7am to 3:30pm
Personnel in this position will on occasion be asked to work overtime and/or respond to emergencies.
