FLSA Status:

Hourly, bi-weekly pay, 12-hour rotating shifts-some overtime required

Position Summary: The Services Operations Supervisor reports to the Production Leader and develops and leads the team that ensures site utilities and services are provided to the site tenants in a safe, efficient, customer friendly manner while maintaining costs. Support Site Emergency Response Team by serving as Site Incident Commander during emergency/drill events, and operate and manage the site wastewater systems, site sanitary waste systems and the site distribution headers to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements. The Services Operations Supervisor will also directly interface with the Site tenants (Dow, OCI) to ensure that their needs are met. 


Primary Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Managing the Services Operation and Operators on a 12hr. rotating shift schedule.
  • Ensure that all shifts are properly staffed by filling overtime as needed to cover for employees that are either sick or on vacation.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department to ensure that work orders are addressed for equipment that needs repairs.
  • Emergency Response Team Incident Commander.
  • Ensure that the Site ERT (Emergency Response Team) is fully staffed with the right compliment of first responders at the start of each shift.
  • Initiate the ERT role call at the beginning of each shift and assign Captain, Ambulance, and Fire Truck driver duties. This includes Dow and OCI ERT responders.
  • Attend all scheduled ERT training sessions. This includes incident command, first aid, HazMat, high angle rescue, and apparatus.
  • Train and become qualified to operate the Site railroad system.
  • Learn and perform safe operation of the Site locomotive to provide back-up to the railroad crew as needed.
  • Learn and perform the routine for weighing rail cars as needed for inbounding and setting outbounds.
  • Learn and perform the task of spotting rail cars at load spots and setting outbound cars for KCS (Kansas City Southern).
  • Nights Only - Monitor and maintain the systems below:
  • Plant outfalls
  • "A" and "B" Diversion Tanks
  • Plant ditch system
  • Plant retention ponds
  • Plant steam headers, drinking water headers and fire water headers
  • Plant sanitary waste system
  • Plant sanitary sewer headers
  • Lift Station
  • Bio-Oxidation unit

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Ensures compliance with standards - EHS, production, costs control, resource efficiency
  • Directly accountable for EHS performance of shift team - Expectation is Zero Incidents/Injuries
  • Develops self to be a Shift Services Supervisor
  • Lead the Daily Services Morning Meeting
  • Always know the current production statistics of assigned processes and be able to discuss today's process bottleneck and plan forward
  • Provide all required audits and reports on time, accurate and detailed to proper departments.
  • Identify ways to improve process and increase profitability
  • Co-ordinate, direct and train the professional development of shift operators, mentor subordinates through exchange of knowledge to improve shift continuity
  • Proactively manage employee relations by promoting a positive work environment through open and regular communication. Thereby providing employees appropriate guidance, addressing concerns/issues, and conveying adherence to and support of company policies and practices as described in the Employee Handbook.
  • Continually demonstrates exceptional communication and team building skills
  • Owns what happens on your shift:
  • "Always leave it better than you found it"
  • Performs initial Root Cause Analysis for PIR's on shift
  • Quality Control for operator deliverables on shift (i.e., Environmental inspections, rounds sheets, shift log and turnover, etc.) - stays over and holds operators over or coaches them when things are missed
  • Ensure work orders are written and equipment conditions are communicated to the day operations and maintenance teams
  • Ensures that environmental compliance samples are caught and shipped in a timely manner and all chain of custody paperwork are filled out properly.
  • Site Outfalls
  • Responsible for maintaining the plant outfalls to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.
  • Ensures instruments for 001 Outfall are maintained and functioning properly (repairs, calibration, etc.)
  • Ensures that Outfalls are kept clear of debris.
  • Collecting routine outfall samples and stormwater samples.
  • Collect, analyze, and properly record routine outfall sample analysis.
  • Maintain sample coolers.
  • Maintain proper paperwork and recordkeeping for samples, including Chain of Custody (CoC).
  • Non-routine sampling.
  • "A" & "B" Diversion Tanks - Operate and Maintain
  • Ditch Systems
  • Ensure ditch systems ("A" and "B" Ditches) are maintained withing permit limits.
  • Collect grab samples as needed.
  • Ensure ditch booms are maintained.
  • Retention Ponds
  • Maintain pond levels as required.
  • Sample ponds as required.
  • Ensure ponds are maintained to regulations (mowing, levees)
  • Sanitary Waste System
  • Manage and operate lift station
  • Manage and operate Bio-Oxidation
  • Assist the Water Plant as needed.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The job holder must effectively facilitate and delegate work activities so that Site objectives set by the Operations Manager are achieved through the direct work of others and the job holder. It requires the ability to self-motivate and appropriately motivate others.

The job holder must control and monitor employee attendance to minimize overtime and meet the budget requirements.

The job holder is required to investigate performance failures within the Services team. This includes the initial investigation and fact finding as well as assisting with follow-up measures as required by the Operations Manager.

 When difficulties arise, it is imperative that the decision made is consistent with the established plan. If the decision requires notification, the appropriate people will be contacted immediately to assist.


REQUIREMENTS/ EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

  • Legally authorized to work in United States.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • Possess or can obtain a valid TWIC card.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a chemical / petrochemical process in a Supervisory capacity is preferred
  • 3+ Years of Experience in Emergency Response and/or Incident Command preferred.
  • Foundational understanding of Process Safety Management 
  • Exhibits leadership capabilities in conjunction with good managerial skills.
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written). Must be able to communicate at all levels in the organization.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Perform physical labor in a variety of extreme climatic conditions including walking, bending, stooping, climbing, digging, lifting and general manual labor. 
  • Ability to climb on/off railcars, ladders, and scaffolding 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to wear required PPE.
