Job description

SUMMARY

The Server/Cashier greets, serves and caters to the needs of venue customers by graciously hosting, taking orders at the table, preparing beverage orders, accepting payment, and assisting venue staff as needed to ensure customer satisfaction. The Server/Cashier performs all key areas of accountability and other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs cashier, server, and host functions, including food orders, delivery, operating the POS register, and delivery.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through prompt, efficient and friendly service and escort customers to tables and provide information regarding buffet or menu items.
  • Efficiently takes food order, enter into POS system and handles payment methods appropriately.
  • Greet guests in a friendly manner –smiling and with an upbeat attitude.
  • Checks out bank and operates cash register.
  • Verify check-in and cash register reconciliation and prepare shift end check-out and cash register reconciliation.
  • Promptly accepts customer bill and payments, processing cash, credit card, coupons or comps.
  • When the food order is ready, promptly deliver the order to the customer.
  • Takes an active role in promoting guest service and advises venue Food & Beverage Manager of guest service issues.
  • Assist with seating arrangements, including moving tables and chairs.
  • Adheres to cash handling procedures established for Food & Beverage staff.
  • Helps maintain a smooth flow in dining room between guests and servers.
  • At the beginning and end of each shift, check supply needs and replenish accordingly.
  • Follows company safety and security policies and procedures. Reports accidents, injuries and unsafe conditions.
  • Promotes a clean, safe and healthy work environment for employees and guests.
  • Promote internal guest service standards through courteous and respectful behavior.
  • Follow proper service procedures pertaining to the foodservice venue working in.
  • Communicate with venue Food & Beverage Supervisor to resolve any guest questions in a timely manner.
  • Assist other servers with all of the above to ensure total Teamwork.
  • Complete all assigned side work in a timely and satisfactory manner to ensure a safe, clean, neat work area with adequate supply level.
  • Correctly completes all necessary paper and bookwork at shifts end.
  • Relay any complaints, concerns, problems or positive remarks to venue Food & Beverage Supervisor.
  • Assist as needed with table bussing, settings and side work.
  • Dispense beverage orders, including soft drinks, and hot drinks.
  • Filling all food orders in an efficient, healthful and attractive manner.
  • Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing proper uniform when working.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of approachability to guests and shows special recognition of frequent guests.
  • Have TIPS certification in an attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers over drinking.
  • Maintain a positive restaurant culture.
  • Abides by all laws pertaining to service of alcoholic beverages to consumers including verifying identification of all purchasers of alcoholic beverages who appear to be underage.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Must comply, complete, and maintain all assigned online training programs before due dates.
  • MUST MAINTAIN STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY OF ALL INFORMATION PROCESSED THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT INCLUDING RECORDS, REPORTS, DOCUMENTS, CONVERSATIONS, ETC. A breach of confidentiality will be subject to appropriate disciplinary action, up to and including termination from employment.
  • Responsible for practicing safe work habits in the performance of the job.
  • Duties and responsibilities will include other activities and areas as needed to carry out position functions.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

(G4/S1-3 DOE)

  • High School Diploma or GED required;
  • One (1) year or more cash handling experience;
  • One (1) year or more in food service, customer service hospitality experience or similar experience;
  • or an equivalent combination of experience, certification or training.

(G5/S1-3 DOE)

  • Associates degree in Business Management or Hospitality or related field required;
  • Two (2) years or more in food service, customer service hospitality experience or similar experience
  • Three (3) years or more in food preparation, cashier, and culinary cooking;
  • or an equivalent combination of education, experience, certification, or training.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Employee requires the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Employee requires the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense, understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables. Must be able to communicate effectively in person, while on the phone, while using intercom/microphone, and in writing.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, AND REGISTRATIONS

  • Must be able to submit supporting documents of education and training (High School Diploma, GED, Degree, and Certificates). if applicable.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Food Handlers and TIPS certification.
  • Must be able to pass a complete background investigation.
  • Must be able to pass a drug/alcohol screening.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain in good standing a Driver’s License and qualify for Fleet Management coverage on company vehicles.

This job operates in a public work environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of the position, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes, tobacco smoke, or airborne particles.

The employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. When on the casino floor, the noise level increases too loud.

This position is held to a high degree of confidentiality and will adhere to P.L. 93-579522 (a) and the Policy and Procedures of the Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel.

The position requires excellent speaking ability while continuously providing excellent professional legendary guest service.

Additionally, the hiring of personnel will be in accordance with the approved Shoshone-Bannock Casino Hotel Ordinance and policy.
