Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an exceptionalProject Manager for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), known as the Sentinel ICBM.
Tell me about this job. This position will directly support the Sentinel ICBM Advanced Planning Branch as they plan, manage and set up future acquisition systems and future components’ programs needed for projected/prospective upgrades to the Sentinel ICBM. To successfully accomplish this, the Sentinel Program requires a Project Manager with a willingness to lead, learn, and contribute in a fast-paced environment. The applicant must possess high energy and a strong motivation to make a difference. They must be comfortable working with multiple and fast changing priorities. The ability to switch tasks and multi-task with minimal disruption and without constant supervision is a must. Managing multiple project schedules, budgets and mission partners is also a necessity skillset.
This position will directly support the US Air Force Futures Division within the Sentinel Program Office. Duties will include providing expert advice and support to the government leaders and engineers on all Advanced Planning Programs’ aspects throughout the acquisition cycle. This position will directly handle project schedules, assist with budget management and plan milestone events for each assigned project. This position will also be expected to prepare and deliver support to regular Program Management Review briefs on the status of each assigned project.
Specifically, this BAE Systems team member will serve as a lead Project Manager responsible for supporting the government customer in the creation, review, and assessment of all program documentation, architecture needs, and future systems acquisition proposals in order to meet Sentinel acquisition requirements and timelines. This team member will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Advanced Planning Branch including status tracking, meeting support, integrated master schedule (IMS) development and management. The position interacts with government customer staff and senior leaders in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Headquarters Air Force, Air Force Global Strike Command, as well as other GBSD team partners from Federally-Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs) and University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs). This team member will also coordinate and integrate actions with other Project Managers, engineers, logisticians, testers, and external agencies. Our team includes existing staff with extensive expertise in the current Minuteman III weapon system and actively participates in ongoing studies and assessments for future systems updates.
This is a special opportunity to join a high-performing team within a large defense company with an extraordinary, positive culture and mission focus. In this position, you will provide direct support to a national security critical weapon system throughout engineering development, deployment and sustainment. You will become a trusted mission partner to the innovative, Digital Engineering-driven Air Force organization that will design, build, test, transition, and sustain the world’s safest, most secure, and effective land-based nuclear deterrent, on-schedule. Do not miss this!
Why BAE Systems?BAE Systems is the third largest defense contractor in the world with an exceptional, mission-focused culture. The 800+ BAE Systems employees and sub-contractors located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah are closely aligned to the United States Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. We are a uniquely-valued mission partner delivering daily technical excellence and innovative solutions to our government customers. BAE Systems has earned accolades as a “Top Workplace” in Utah based on employee feedback for four consecutive years, earning special distinction for providing a healthy work-life balance for our valued employees. Why Utah? You’ve got to see it to believe it! Utah is an amazing state with diverse geography, an eclectic culture and an exceptional quality of life. We are located north of Salt Lake City at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. The area offers an incredible range of outdoors pursuits across the seasons including hiking, climbing, hunting, fishing, camping, boating and world-class skiing at resorts that hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics. The state is home to five amazing National Parks and an easy drive from two more; Grand Teton and, famously, the first National Park in the world, Yellowstone. The Salt Lake City area offers a vast array of cultural activities and businesses including multiple professional sports teams. It is a western states hub for exceptional, cutting-edge medical care with people traveling from across the region for a range of nationally renowned specialty care centers and doctors. The Salt Lake International Airport is expanding and offers easy, direct access to just about anywhere you want to fly. An additional advantage for applicants that are retired military service members is that the State of Utah just recently enacted legislation making retired military pay non-taxable beginning in tax-year 2022.
Why Sentinel? The Sentinel (Formerly GBSD) Program is an enormous and complex “Mega-Project” modernizing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without any doubt, Sentinel is one of the Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment of hundreds of aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly designed, technologically advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command and control system as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the decades ahead. Sentinel is a DoD “program of record,” having recently achieved Acquisitions Milestone B. It enjoys broad, strong support at the national level. It is a long-term project -- the weapon system will deploy over a nine-year period beginning in approximately 2026-27, and remain operational until at least 2075. Sentinel is a career-defining program that will present unique and challenging opportunities that simply are not available with smaller projects.

Pursuant to Government contract, this position requires US Citizenship status.
This position is only located at Hill Air Force Base, Utah. Due to special-access, classified working environment, this position is not conducive to regular “telework” schedules.
