WHAT YOULL DO
The Senior Wine Steward assists the Wine Cellar Manager in the day-to-day operation of the Wine Cellar. They are responsible for ensuring the highest level of customer service, maintaining food quality and safety standards, and managing staff to achieve operational excellence.
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Greet guests and pour wines according to established wine tasting procedures.
- Describe wines, winemaking techniques and winery history.
- Attend the wine service and ensure that all guests are properly served.
- Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and within the proper glassware.
- Maintain the wine inventory and bring over replacement wine whenever necessary.
- Prepare and serve cold canapes, cheese & charcuterie boards, ensuring that food is served in proper portions and that all guests are satisfied.
- Handle routine POS transactions, including operating cash register.
- Stay current on winery/wine knowledge and be able to multitask.
- Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous service to guests.
- Handles and solves any concerns and questions customers may have.
- Resolve guest complaints to satisfaction and/or communicate guest issues to management.
- Performs all side work, opening and closing duties.
- Maintain a clean, sanitized, and organized work area.
- Perform opening and closing duties based upon shift assignment.
- Ensure all Rio Hotel & Casino core values and property and department standards are implemented and applied.
- Obtain and maintain position-specific licensing.
- Must adhere to all company standards and operating policies.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations, and report any safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate personnel.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

- At least 21 years of age.
- Experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward/Stewardess or similar role.
- Extensive knowledge of different wines and regions.
- Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English.
- Good communication skills.
- Polished appearance and demeanor.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to obtain & maintain full knowledge and understanding of company and department rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to obtain & maintain full knowledge and understanding of the venues menu.
- Previous experience working in a similar position within a hospitality establishment.
- Must be able to lift and transport at least 50lbs.
- Must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, under time constraints, and within established deadlines.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and handle sensitive situations relating to staff and guest problems, in a time manner.
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors in various environments and exposed to various environmental factors such as but not limited to noise, dust, and smoke.
