Working Title
Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Brief Summary of Job Description
Reporting to the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer of the university, providing administrative leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs of UNK. The SVCAA supervises academic deans, research and creative activity, the Honors Program, the Thompson Scholars Learning Community, UNK Global, the Registrar, the Office of Institutional Research, Undergraduate Research, the Director of Assessment, and General Studies. This position serves as a member of the Chancellor's executive cabinet, and the NU system Council of Academic Officers.
Job Duties
  • Leads strategic planning and development of academic programs.
  • Responsible for faculty reappointment, promotion, and tenure processes.
  • Leads and oversees academic policy development and implementation.
  • Oversees all academic financial affairs and distribution of resources.
  • Represents the university on academic matters with state and local governments, NU System Administration, the Board of Regents, private sector, and the public.
  • Supervises deans, the associate Vice Chancellor for research, the Honors Program, the Thompson Scholars Learning Community, UNK Global, the Registrar, the Office of Institutional Research, Undergraduate Research, the Director of Assessment, and General Studies.
  • Collaborates with the faculty senate and faculty union as appropriate.
  • Member of the Chancellor's executive cabinet, and the NU system Council of Academic Officers.
  • Serves as the campus principal in the Chancellor's stead as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in an academic discipline.
  • A strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service as a faculty member that would warrant tenure in an academic department at UNK.
  • A successful and progressive record of administrative experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to make strategic decisions based on quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Experienced practitioner of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Record of shared governance and collaborative leadership.
