HDR is currently seeking a Senior Transit Systems Designer to join our Ann Arbor, MI office.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Senior Transit Systems Designer are to support Transit Project Managers and Engineers in the development of Civil and Systems design plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of clients. This position would primarily be focused on serving our Transit and Transit Systems clients nationwide, but would also support our AV/CV, Traffic / ITS, Airport and Security Architecture groups. This position would consist of Civil and Systems Engineering assignments, including the coordination with civil, real estate, traffic, transit, structural, utility, and rail design disciplines.
The Candidate must have demonstrated an ability to work independently on projects and assist more senior engineers on larger projects as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Task leadership experience is preferred. Knowledge of and experience delivering systems design projects within the Systems Engineering "V" Project Model (planning/requirements, design, specification, construction, implementation) is required. Experience with fiber optic and communications network design is preferred. The position will require periodic site visits, field assessments, construction inspection, and travel as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate or technical school degree, or combination of education and relevant experience
- A minimum of 10 years experience in technical support of BIM applications such as AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Must have engineering production experience
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of industry standards and practices in the areas of CAD, more specifically AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Uses office productivity software effectively (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and be able to use Microsoft database technologies
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to gather, organize and interpret data for process monitoring or business case development
- Apply sound judgment in establishing priorities among support requests and project work
- Display attention to detail and strong organization skills
- Experience with Bentley products such as ProjectWise is a significant plus
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with transit and systems design.
- It is preferred to have experience working with MDOT and other transportation agencies in the Michigan market
- Preference given to local Southeast Michigan area residents
