AFPS, LLP is a boutique accounting firm located at the center of Irvine in Orange County, California. Borne from predecessor firms which originated in 1996, the Firm's clients are represented by a variety of industries; focusing primarily on real estate taxation, high net worth individuals, and a multitude of service industry segments.
We are seeking a motivated Staff Tax Accountant to join our tax practice and provide various tax and accounting services. We are looking for a self-driven, detail-oriented individual with good communication and organizational skills. What you will be doing—
Gather, organize, and review client information (e.g., financial statements, partnership agreements, escrow statements, loan documents, etc.)
Prepare federal and multi-state income tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, trusts and tax-exempt entities across a range of industries including real estate investment, management, real estate development, manufacturing, restaurants, etc. Prepare projections of taxable income and estimated federal and state tax liabilities for corporations, partnerships, high-net-worth individuals, and complex irrevocable trusts.
Prepare work papers to support the amounts and positions reported in filed tax returns, including the preparation of adjusting book and tax journal entries, documentation and analysis of significant tax events (e.g., sale of assets, contributions of property, distributions of property, transfers of interest, etc.), allocation of income and loss to partners and shareholders, federal and state tax withholding for nonresident partners and shareholders, unrelated business taxable income, etc.
Assist with representation of clients before the IRS and state tax authorities; prepare responses to Information Document Requests (IDRs) and research issues pertaining to the examination process. Assist with various tax consulting projects including capital gain planning, like-kind exchanges, depreciable asset analysis, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
- CPA certification preferred or application in process
- Knowledge of technical accounting principles and practices
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, CCH)
- Familiarity with GAAP
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to interpret financial reports and analyze data
- Must have 2-4 years prior experience in public accounting

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
