Job Description
Must have general experience with 2D and 3D CAD software and designs. Must have marine and/or offshore experience in design. Understands best suited design criteria as work flows through Shipyard manufacturing process. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers to translate specifications into cost effective design. Take initiative to resolve design conflicts with most economical means.
***Must be proficient with ACAD 2D drawings and 3D Modeling
Associates of Applied Science degree in drafting and design or completion of technical CAD courses provided by reputable source. Ten (10) years experience in drafting and design. Must have organizational skills.
Has an understanding of design philosophies related to his field. Has ability to develop design packages for Owner and Regulatory approval process. Able to lead other designers to produce complete engineering package as required by vessel contract.
- Work with engineers and lead other designers to develop all associated drawings/documents.
- Develop drawing schedule and coordinate work to produce drawings on time and within budget.
- Develop basic design and oversee completion of work done by others within engineering group.
- Ability to maximize resources to work within confines of schedule.
- Provide technical support for subcontractors.
- Work with engineer to solve complex design issues.
- Review and approve engineering drawings in compliance with specifications and ensure adequate safety standards are included.
- Support QA department with test procedures as necessary.
- Coordinates design criteria with Planning and Production to develop build strategies.
- Ensures work meets requirements of applicable Regulatory and Owner specifications. Answer design related questions and offer alternative solutions to offset production rework.
