As a Senior Startup Commissioning Engineer for Kiewit, you will play a significant part in the supervision and coordination of all activities associated with the startup and commissioning functions of a project including safety, pre-commissioning, check-out and testing, and more.
This position will support Kiewit's Jett Industries Inc, a leading general contractor specializing in the construction and modification of water and wastewater treatment facilities. Jett has been completing projects throughout New York State and New York City since 1985.
This person will be based out of the district headquarters office in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, and support startup/commissioning operations on large water construction projects across the NY/NJ area. Travel to project sites as needed will be requirement for this role. Relocation and/or travel packages will be provided to the ideal candidate.
- Provide first line supervision, training, and development of startup and commissioning personnel.
- Hold daily, weekly, and monthly startup progress meetings and issues timely reports.
- Planning and maintenance of startup schedules in collaboration to construction schedules and owners' goals.
- Proactively assess progress and completion forecasts to provide solutions to mitigate schedule delays and optimize project completion.
- Track and report budget expenditures against projected budgets.
- Implement standards and procedures outlined in the company's Startup Administration Manual.
- Assist in development of technical specifications for site administered contracts.
- Review, supervise, and evaluate test procedures and coordinate testing activities for assigned mechanical systems.
- Supervise startup database maintenance, drawing updates, and track all engineering documents for turnover packages.
- Interact with Engineering and Operations team for input and draw from experience and knowledge when developing procedures.
- Prepare job cards for Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities.
- Identify personnel and equipment resources necessary to perform mechanical commissioning activities for assigned systems.
- Coordinate with vendors and technical field personnel as needed for systems preparations.
- Ensure all documentation; tools, consumables, and equipment are available to perform work.
- Assist in achieving a smooth handover to operations.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
- At least 5 years of work experience in commissioning and startup of processes and systems.
- The ability to travel to project locations around NY and NJ.
- Proven knowledge in operations and maintenance of production facilities.
- Knowledge of internal engineering systems and tools.
- Understanding of Flow Measurement, engineering practices, design methods, and calculations.
- Experience reading and interpreting electrical, I&C, and mechanical drawings with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to successfully procure, monitor, and assess subcontracted functions.
- Well-developed and professional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the organization including owners and subcontractors.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and on a team on complex project controls issues.

Base Compensation: $100,000 - $145,000
