Position Summary

We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to become a foundational member of a small engineering team. You will partner with product management and design to architect, implement, test, iterate and maintain features that will bring unprecedented technology to the school and substitute teacher marketplace. You will play a key role in defining Swing's technical vision and long-term roadmap. You will help scale our team, codebase, infrastructure, processes and products. This role will meaningfully impact Swing's mission to ensure that learning never stops in K-12 classrooms.

This will be a full-time remote position.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

• Roll up your sleeves and get involved; ship high priority or high complexity product features
• Serve as a role model and mentor to every technical member of the team
• Operate as a technical lead of one or more teams
• Deliver large systems involving one or more teams' contribution on time at a high level of quality
• Build systems, author tools, or introduce policies or patterns that raise the level of productivity of the entire org
• Play a key role in developing multi-year technology strategy
• Be an external brand ambassador for Swing tech through blogs, talks, conferences, etc.

Technology:

• FE: Typescript, React with isolated Clojure
• BE: Clojure
• Data stores: Datomic, DynamoDB, Redshift
• Cloud: AWS

Requirements and Qualifications:

• 15+ years of professional software development experience
• Previous Clojure, ClojureScript, Datomic, or Lisp-based language experience
• Breadth of experience across many software stacks and industries
• In-depth knowledge of technology trends and are active in sharing knowledge, mentoring and coaching
• Expert designing and architecting software solutions
• Expert knowledge of databases, SQL, and version control tools
• Expert experience building and consuming APIs
• Expert experience in front-end development using React
• Experience in Javascript,Typescript and Postgres
• Expert with modern infrastructure essentials like AWS, Docker, CI/CD tools, etc.
• Expert developing and shipping production-grade services in an agile, product-oriented environment

Some nice to haves:

• Previous experience building/deploying UI component libraries
• Previous mobile development experience via React Native
• Previous EdTech, startup, or online marketplace experience
• New user onboarding and first touch tailoring experience
