Boston University's Arts & SciencesWriting Program seeks an administrative professional to join its staff. The Writing Program is a vital part of the undergraduate experience at BU, offering over 400 sections of introductory writing courses and enrolling students from every four-year undergraduate college. It employs over a hundred full-time and part-time instructors and approximately thirty Graduate Writing Fellows. The Senior Staff Assistant is the first point of contact for the Writing Program, responsible for answering student, instructor, and visitor questions or directing people to appropriate resources. The Senior Staff Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the Arts & Sciences Writing Center and provides administrative support for other staff members by collecting and compiling program records and data, maintaining and updating program websites, and assisting with program communication and events.
Responsibilities include:
- Collecting, organizing, and maintaining program records, copy-editing program documents, compiling data, tracking transfer credit applications, and other clerical tasks Managing online tutoring schedule, including tutor shifts and absences; making student appointments at the Writing Center; tracking missed appointments; creating usage reports for the Associate Director of the Writing Center and feedback reports for graduating tutorsUpdating program websites, program calendars, and social media accounts; assisting with publishing student journal and publicity for program events and initiatives Assisting visitors, students, and instructors at the reception desk and via the writing@bu.edu email account Offering logistical support for Writing Program events, finding and reserving venues, placing catering orders, overseeing facilities requests, and addressing minor problems with copier and printers
The Writing Program seeks a candidate who is highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A successful candidate will be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities, work independently, and interact comfortably with people across the BU community. This is a full-time, in-person, 12-month position.
