Media Engineering's Manifest Delivery team is accountable for ensuring that customers can play videos – the core functionality of our service. The team's responsibilities include delivering HLS and DASH manifests that power the in-app players across a variety of devices for the VOD experience. The team is involved in end-to-end quality of service for playback, from how long it takes to start a video to how the video segments are delivered. We are looking for a Software Developer to help us build a robust, reliable and fast set of media presentation services. We are also responsible for building scalable solutions to support the insertion of personalized auxiliary content (bumpers and ads) into main content streams across the VOD and live playback experiences.
Job Summary:

Areas of Focus Include:
Build systems to power low latency manifest delivery for VOD playback with 24/7 availability
Develop services to dynamically generate DASH and HLS playlists to a wide range of devices
Develop and deploy highly available systems on top of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, etc.
Contribute to technical designs and architecture of complex, cross-team projects
Create and present design documents and represent the team in architectural discussions
Continually identify areas for improvements in our systems, workflows, logging, monitoring and alerting
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
Help drive discussions for planning team directions with both technology and product driven projects
Implement new features and enhancements across multiple in-flight projects
Strive to improve engineering standards for the team and proactively seek out ways to improve the codebase
Mentor junior engineers
Maintain, monitor and scale complex systems that juggle different areas of business logic quickly and reliably
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 5 years of backend software development experience in Golang (preferred), Scala, Java, or a similar language, or related work experience
Experience with an HTTPS API framework
Experience in High Throughput Systems
Familiarity building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-uptime systems in a cloud native environment - preferably AWS cloud
Experience implementing complex, distributed software systems
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Excellent communication, collaboration skills and a strong teamwork ethic
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity or an interest in video streaming technologies

The hiring range for this position in New York is $142,600 to $191,100 per year and in Santa Monica, California is $136,100 to $182,400 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
