Collins Aerospace is currently seeking qualified candidates for Senior level engineers in our AIS department in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The department's Data link teams develop software that provides a mobile data link service through various subnetworks between the aircraft and the airline ground facilities and/or air traffic controllers, for example using the Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) system. The Data Link Communications Applications software (DLCA) team creates the airborne software providing ways to manage the receipt of uplink messages, generation of downlink messages, and the development of the on-board applications for the processing of messages. Teams are comprised of cross-functional engineers working in an AGILE environment focused on the design and development of software only products. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Link team, you will be involved in the development of state-of-the-art software and be responsible for all aspects of the project life cycle. You will design and develop embedded software primarily in the C++ language and develop on-board Datalink products display pages using GUI based design tools, along with the associated logic to animate the pages on the flight deck and cabin displays.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, code, test, and provide ongoing support for embedded systems software to meet technical and customer requirements.

  • Design and code based on low-level software requirements.
  • Build, test and deliver real-time embedded software to target environments in support of program and customer commitments.
  • Assist with system level testing, working closely with cross functional areas to coordinate desired solutions, documenting problem reports and working resolution activities.
  • Participate in Design and Code Reviews with other members of the team to identify and eliminate problems early in the development process.
  • Occasional domestic and/or international travel.

Qualifications/Experience Needed:
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position.
  • Working knowledge of C++,C , Python.
  • Knowledge of designing new software systems using object-oriented design principles.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership capability for working with internal organizations and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Network protocol knowledge and Real Time Operating System knowledge.
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems (EICAS, MCDU, FMS, ACMS, etc.) and their function in the aircraft.
  • Knowledge of air/ground messaging and related data link protocols (ARINC 429, ARINC 618, VDL Mode 2, TCP/IP, ATN OSI etc.), aircrew human machine interface design, and AOC applications.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
