Job Summary

Purdue University is looking for an individual who desires meaningful work that directly impacts Indiana's manufacturing sector. The mission of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is to advance Indiana's prosperity, health, and quality of life. Each year MEP serves hundreds of manufacturing companies, businesses, high-tech start-ups, life science companies, governmental units, and not-for-profit organizations. Impacts include significant sales increases, cost reductions, capital investments, and jobs created or saved.

The Senior Services Manager, Productivity Improvement, is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) who can deliver high-value, fee-based services to a diverse base of manufacturers in Indiana. This position is also responsible for development, delivery, consulting, and training in the Productivity Improvement services (Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, TWI, Workforce, etc.) for manufacturing operations, engineering, and management personnel.  This position will focus on implementing Productivity Improvement solutions for clients that result in significant economic impact for the business. Customer satisfaction and project impact are measured by return on investment and client surveys.

The Senior Services Manager, is an experienced professional who can facilitate, manage, and provide constructive feedback to manufacturing personnel, including operators, engineers, executives, and key stakeholders. This position will utilize a variety of skills, tools, and exercises to ensure consistent engagement and productive discussion of all participants, while maintaining a respectful environment.

This position requires travel in Indiana and occasional travel outside Indiana. The office location for this position will be home office or within one of Purdue's statewide or partnering facilities in accordance with Purdue policy.

 

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, or related field 
  • Seven (7) years of experience implementing continuous improvement with Lean initiatives: Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5-S, Pull/Kanban, etc., or Six Sigma methodologies resulting in documented economic impact (cost savings, retained or created sales / jobs, investments in the organization and other metrics)
  • Five (5) years of managing in a manufacturing operation including responsibilities for quality, productivity, personnel decisions and profit and loss reporting
  • Equivalent combinations of related education and experience may be considered
  • Excellent verbal / written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop professional relationships
  • Professionalism in Public Speaking and Presentation with multi-media tools
  • Skills building and Instructional and Coaching proficiencies 
  • Project management skills 
  • Strong customer service skills with a commitment to performance excellence and the ability to facilitate focused consultation and group training
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to provide objective feedback and conduct accurate root cause analysis
  • Adept and disciplined in CRM portal use in (e.g., Salesforce), logging client activity, personal performance measures
  • Proficiency with the following software: Microsoft Office Word, Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Microsoft Office Outlook

 


Preferred:

  • Degree in Engineering or Technology
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Technology, MBA, or related field
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt
  • Ten years of experience leading Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma projects resulting in economic impact
  • Project Management and/or Leadership Experience in a complex manufacturing environment
