Job description

Job Description

About You

You are an experienced professional in the environmental regulatory and compliance field with an advanced scientific degree. You have a background in a field of biology (e.g., Botany, Fisheries, or Wildlife Biology) with experience in California. You are a strategic thinker who thrives on the challenges of complex, interdisciplinary regulatory matters. You have working knowledge and experience with California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), federal and state Endangered Species Acts, Clean Water Act, and other relevant environmental laws. You have an interest, or direct experience, identifying project commensurate compensatory mitigation efforts and wish to learn more about mitigation banking and other opportunities to conserve critical lands.

As a lifelong learner, you want to keep growing intellectually and professionally. Collaborating with colleagues with diverse expertise is exciting for you, but you are also comfortable working independently. You effectively manage large projects, oversee and delegate technical tasks, produce high quality written deliverables, and exceed internal and external client expectations. You are highly detail oriented, organized, timely, and consistently see tasks through completion. You have broad experience communicating key concepts orally and in written form to the lay person, teaming partners, regulators, attorneys, and clients. Quality management and integrity are among your strongest principles. You are looking for a platform where your ideas are taken seriously, and you have opportunities to grow in your technical area and in the firm as a whole.

About Integral

Integral Consulting Inc. is a science and engineering firm delivering sound technical solutions to meet today's challenges in the health, environmental, and natural resource arenas. We are a values-driven collaborative team that is as passionate about company culture as we are about the work we do for our clients.  Since our founding 20 years ago, we have operated with a demonstrated commitment to the well-being, diversity, and professional development of our staff and an equal commitment to strong partnerships with our clients and teaming partners.  We are a company where people come to solve today’s toughest environmental challenges through innovative ideas, exceptional teamwork, and dedication to accuracy and technical quality.

About the Job

We are currently seeking a senior-level scientist for our newly developing Permitting and Planning practice that will provide project management oversite in our San Francisco Bay Area offices. The position will support multiple clients and on a wide variety of projects involving permitting and planning, securing compensatory mitigation, and compliance. This position will have the responsibility of growing a portfolio of work and securing new clients.

This opportunity will be exciting for someone who has interest in continuing, and growing, a project permitting career and applying field expertise to responsible project authorizations. You will have the opportunity to draw on the diverse expertise of the larger Integral team to grow your technical expertise, and occasionally work beyond the Bay Area and California. You will oversee a team responsible for delivering assignments within budget and on schedule. You will have the responsibility of ensuring preparation and management of a portfolio of projects with environmental regulatory authorizations.  You will develop and maintain your existing professional relationships with the regulatory community.

The candidate hired for this role will be expected to be onsite at various locations throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area for training, to conduct project site visits and for other related project requirements.  This position may require occasional travel.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Scientist or Consultant in our Permitting and Planning practice, your job functions will include, but not be limited to:

  • Leading a team of professionals
  • Preparing complex project descriptions based on client-provided engineering drawings
  • Preparing a strategic project-specific permitting plan and associated schedule
  • Preparing a permitting-specific project plan
  • Preparing project application packages in collaboration with others
  • Facilitate agency negotiation of permit conditions
  • Oversee permit compliance as projects enter the construction phase
  • Ensure production of high-quality deliverables consistent with Integral Quality Assurance practices

Qualifications

Candidates should hold an advanced degree in biology, chemistry, environmental health, or similar field.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
  • Possess strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers

Annual Salary Range: $85,000 - $130,000

An employee’s total compensation package includes annual salary, company-subsidized (employee and family) medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) participation with a company-match of 1% to 4% of annual compensation, company-paid life and short- and long-term disability, paid sick leave (80 hours per year), paid vacation (determined by title at hire), paid holidays (9 days per year), and the potential for an annual discretionary bonus based on company performance. Paid time off will be pro-rated to reflect part-time scheduled hours, if applicable.

We are proud to be an equal employment opportunity employer and are committed to a proactive program of affirmative action and diversity development. Integral Consulting Inc. provides equal opportunity in all of our employment practices to all qualified employees and applicants without regard to race; color; religion; gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions); national origin; age; sexual orientation; disability; marital status; military, veteran, or Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act protected veteran status; gender identity or gender expression; or any other category protected by federal, state, and local laws.

The application window for this position will remain open until the position is filled.

All offers of employment are contingent on candidates successfully passing an employment history screening, degree verification, and a federal, state, and county criminal background and Watch List screening.
