Janssen Research and Development, a member of Johnson and Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting for a Senior Scientist, Immunology in the Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology team located in La Jolla, CA.

The Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology team is a part of the Discovery Technologies and Molecular Pharmacology (DTMP) organization, a critical group in the larger Therapeutics Discovery (TD) organization. We are committed to the delivery of high-quality chemical leads and clinical compounds in all Therapeutic Area discovery teams. Specifically, this position requires deep scientific and technology expertise in multiple fields including immunology, cell biology, pharmacology, screening assay development and execution, with an ability to work collaboratively with internal partners and collaborators.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with immunology disease area biologists and chemists, to propose, initiate and complete fit-for-purpose assays that advances the programs.
  • Conceive of and implement hit finding plans for early-stage programs in collaboration with therapeutic area partners and multidisciplinary DTMP teams.
  • Exhibit an awareness of new technological advances and scientific knowledge in the field and apply these to high-throughput (HT) cellular assays.
  • Propose and oversee instrument acquisition and skill training towards building state-of-the-art technology platforms.
  • Write and implement SOPs and troubleshoot assays in support of medicinal chemistry efforts, assuring high-quality data analysis and timely reporting.
  • Contribute data and methods to compelling scientific presentations and reports for internal review meetings and scientific journals/professional conferences.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience is required, preferably in a drug discovery setting.

Experience and Skills:

Required:

  • Knowledge of immune cell signaling pathways and disorders is required.
  • Experience with methods of modulating disease state with pharmaceutical agents is required.
  • Hands-on experience in the establishment of robust miniaturized cell-based assays is required.
  • Operation and efficiency driven mentality that enables building end-to-end processes is required.
  • Deep understanding of troubleshooting and quality control (QC) of medium to high-throughput assays is required.
  • Experience interpreting results in the context of Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) is required.
  • Demonstrated excellence in both written and oral communication is required.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships is a must.

Preferred:

  • Experience in managing early drug discovery programs for immunological disorders is preferred.
  • Experience working with laboratory automation and high-throughput screening is preferred.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $113,000 to $195,500.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year.
  • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year.
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year.
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year.
