Job description

Why Join Intellia?
Our mission is to develop curative genome editing treatments that can positively transform the lives of people living with severe and life-threatening diseases.
Beyond our science, we live our four core values: One, Explore, Disrupt, Deliver and feel strongly that you can achieve more at Intellia. We have a single-minded determination to excel and succeed together. We believe in the power of curiosity and pushing boundaries. We welcome challenging thoughts and imagination to develop innovative solutions. And we know that patients are counting on us to make the promise a reality, so we must maintain high standards and get it done.
We want all of our people to go beyond what is possible. We aren’t constrained by typical end rails, and we aren’t out to just “treat” people. We’re all in this for something more. We’re driven to cure and motivated for change. Just imagine the possibilities of what we can do together.

How you will Achieve More with Intellia:
As a Sr. Scientist within the Disease Biology group, you will be part of a top-notch team focused on applying revolutionary new genome editing approaches to cure hematological disease. You will be responsible for generating therapeutic hypotheses and developing, optimizing, and executing in vitro assays to test these in the most relevant models. Additional responsibilities include:
  • Lead cross-functional, disease-focused project teams from initiation to DC stage.
  • Communicate effectively within a functional team and across a matrixed organization.
  • Develop assays to interrogate biological processes and test novel therapeutics.
  • Perform cell culture with rodent, primate, and human primary cells, as well as relevant cell lines.
  • Deliver high-quality data to help advance drug discovery projects in the therapeutic portfolio.
  • Analyze data, interpret results and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Generate new therapeutic hypotheses leveraging CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing.
  • Train junior scientists on the team and provide guidance for their experiments.
About You:
We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Sr. Scientist with deep expertise in hematology and a passion for developing cutting-edge treatments for patients suffering from inherited blood disorders. The ideal candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills, eagerness to learn about new disease areas and techniques, and the motivation to lead a cross-functional team to deliver reliable scientific data under tight timelines. Creativity and intellectual curiosity are essential to the role, as is the ability to generate new therapeutic ideas, and to distill complicated concepts into easy-to-understand and testable hypotheses.
Additional role requirements include:
  • Ph.D. degree with 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to work and think independently, and to contribute your expertise as a part of a highly matrixed team.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a diverse project team to successfully achieve objectives.
  • Cell culture expertise, including with primary human bone marrow cells.
  • In-depth knowledge of cell-based techniques (transfection, viability, microscopy, CFCs, differentiation, co-cultures, etc.).
  • Strong skills in multicolor flow cytometry and cell sorting.
  • Confidence in bioassay development, optimization, and validation.
  • Molecular biology skills such as PCR, qPCR/ddPCR, Western blotting, ELISA.
  • Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 technology.
  • Knowledge of inherited diseases of bone marrow.
  • Basic in vivo skills (rodents) and comfortable performing bone marrow preps (rodent, NHP, human).
  • Understanding of NGS, including sample prep, analysis, and troubleshooting.
Meet your future team:
The Disease Biology team is a group of bright, fun, and team-first individuals. Your future hiring manager is Associate Director within the Disease Biology group. Having spent 6.5 years with Intellia, the hiring manager is very knowledgeable on the company’s history and mission.
Your future team is a group of dedicated individuals, driven to change patients’ lives. As we build our team, we’re excited to work with people who share our commitment and energy to making a difference.
The team is currently working onsite. Therefore, we anticipate that you are currently local to Cambridge, MA, or open to relocating. While much of the day-to-day operations require wet-lab work, our team is focused on building not just technical expertise but fostering an environment for the growth of scientists interested in a career in therapeutic biotechnology. If you join our team, you can expect to join a fast, exciting, and collaborative environment. We look forward to fostering your skills, learning from your experiences, and building a larger team together.
