SalaryROLE SUMMARY
Our Internal Medicine (IM) Medicinal Chemistry Group delivers scientific excellence in the small-molecule Medicinal Chemistry portfolio aligned to the IM Research Unit (IM RU). You will work within the IM Medicinal Chemistry Design Group and will contribute to the Medicinal Chemistry efforts on a project, or projects, in collaboration with the IM Research Unit and IM Medicinal Chemistry Synthesis Group. As the design chemist, you will drive a strong scientific agenda by utilizing available design tools to generate design hypotheses and contribute to target design.
You will play a key role in large, multi-disciplinary, matrix teams from project inception to delivery of clinical drug candidates. You will also contribute to teams of scientists looking to revolutionize our approach to the discovery and development of small-molecule and synthetically-derived drugs by combining Pfizer’s expertise and large-scale research investments with external academic and biotech collaborations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply contemporary data analysis and design tools to drive effective target design and prioritization within a project
- Devise effective hit identification strategies to move projects through the Hit-to-Lead phase with scientific excellence, efficiency, and speed
- Play a key role in progressing projects through the Lead Optimization phase in partnership with enabling functions within Medicine Design, including Structural Biology, Chemical Biology, Primary Pharmacology, and Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism, to ensure the delivery of small-molecule/synthetic drug candidates with scientific excellence, efficiency, and speed
- Play a role in enhancing the external reputation of Pfizer’s Medicinal Chemistry, Molecular Design, and synthetic Drug Discovery capabilities through publications and presentations at leading conferences
- Work with local Medicine Design leadership to put an active program of self-development in Medicinal Chemistry skills in place
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. degree in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or related area of science OR
- M.S. degree in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or related area of science with minimum 3 years related Medicinal Chemistry experience in the biopharmaceutical industry OR
- B.S. degree in Organic/Medicinal Chemistry or related area of science with minimum 5 years related Medicinal Chemistry experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Track record of accomplishment, as indicated by examples of high impact publications
- Experience working in teams of scientists to deliver defined objectives
- Experience in working in a drug discovery environment
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Requires occasional travel to Pfizer site in Groton, CT.

Work Location Assignment: On Premise
The annual base salary for this position ranges from $88,300.00 to $147,100.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
