Business Title: Senior Safety Coordinator
Direct Report/Manager: Safety Manager
Location: Fargo, ND
Position Summary:
The Senior Safety Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Safety Manager and will act as a resource for implementation, management, and continuous improvement of safety. This involves coordination and administration of the project safety and health programs to minimize the frequency and severity of incidents of loss while maintaining the efficiency of the overall operations
Job Description:
Responsibilities
  • Work closely together with the H&S Manager to ensure project H&S practices are aligned with the ASN Constructor's H&S Strategy, Programs, and Standards and are relayed to all contractors and vendors
  • Ensure that H&S objectives and roadmaps are developed for the project, focusing on high risk activities
  • Ensure daily safety/ toolbox talks take place with construction workforce
  • Ensure that risk assessment is done on all construction related tasks to be executed during the day
  • Perform regular site inspections, and safety walks/observations and report on findings
  • Propose and coordinate mitigation actions in collaboration with project and operations to address risks identified
  • Verify results and correct where needed the implementation of workplace monitoring programs related to projects, safety induction and contractor management.

Reporting & KPIs
  • Verify, train and coordinate where needed the reporting of the project's H&S KPIs
  • Investigate and report project related H&S incidents in accordance with ASN Standards

Coaching & Influencing
  • Translate H&S legislation into simple and practical way of working as and ensure implementation by project team
  • Verify, monitor, coach and correct where needed the clusters in the use of H&S management tools
  • Verify that H&S training programs are correctly rolled out in the project environment
  • Coach an EHS team to ensure proper implementation of safety policies and programs

Capabilities
  • Practical understanding of construction industry including Heavy/Civil and Structural
  • Advanced knowledge in process safety management
  • Knowledge of Safety & Health regulations (MSHA, OSHA)
  • Ability to learn ASN's safety & health program elements, H&S Strategy and Standards
  • Ability to lead an HSE field team.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with operations managers.

Experience/Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience Construction Related Experience, in a HSE role for major projects
  • Degree (BS or AS) in occupational health and safety or another relevant field preferred
  • Well-versed in 29 CFR 1926 regulations and construction industry standards
  • Proficient in creating spreadsheets, word documents, creating EHS KPI dashboards and using mobile devices for safety inspections/audits.
  • Strong initiative (self-starter), problem-solving and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Safety Manager Construction (CSMC) or equivalent certifications preferred.
  • Prior HSE team leadership in a construction environment
  • Ability to work extended hours to include nights and weekends, and to be on call.

Physical Demands and Work Environment - ALL CRAFT AND FIELD POSITIONS
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • Noise levels in the work environment is usually loud.
  • Ability to wear and work in personnel protective equipment including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ankle-supporting safety-toed work boots and a safety vest.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Extensive moving or positioning heavy weighted materials (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and ascend/descend to reach materials or enter heavy equipment.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position is primarily indoors.
  • This work environment may involve minimal exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
