Job description

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is located in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and is a museum of modern and contemporary art with a mission to contribute to and stimulate expansive perspectives on the history of art. Presenting an international collection with a specific focus on West Asia, North Africa, and South Asia (WANASA), Guggenheim Abu Dhabi fosters a deeper understanding of how different local, regional, and international forces have shaped the interconnected histories and cultures of our time.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation is seeking a Senior RegistrarGuggenheim Abu Dhabi Project who can work independently and collaboratively with colleagues in Abu Dhabi, New York, and Cologne on supporting registrar workflows for collections and the inaugural exhibition for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Key responsibilities include working with a collection database, coordinating art movement and installation of artworks for Guggenheim New York, and liaising with curators and collection care staff for Guggenheim Abu Dhabi.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in registration, with experience in loans, collections, and exhibitions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment is a must.
  • Strength in budget development, vendor negotiations, and real time expense management
  • Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment, and initiative.
  • Willing to travel internationally, sometimes frequently and for extended periods.
  • Strong computer skills and fluency in collection management databases are required, with specific expertise in Excel, Axiell’s Electronic Museum (“EMu”), and The Museum System (“TMS”) strongly preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
For all responsibilities, the candidate will work closely with the Senior Registrar, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (based in Abu Dhabi) under the Collections Team of the Department of Cultural Tourism (DCT) and Guggenheim New York, Collections and Registration Department.
 
  • Work with Registrar, Curatorial, Conservation, Exhibition Design and Management colleagues in Abu Dhabi, New York, and Cologne to plan and coordinate the logistics for opening the museum in Abu Dhabi 
  • Coordinate collection moves, commission installations and as needed, loans for the opening installation in Abu Dhabi.
  • Draft and circulate collection information as needed to staff and contractors.
  • Review Guggenheim New York generated contracts, liaise with DCT, Curatorial, Exhibition Management, and Legal departments as necessary, and negotiate terms with lenders as appropriate.
  • Receive and release Guggenheim New York works of art and generate accompanying paperwork.
  • Oversee and direct handling, packing and unpacking, record packing notes, and conduct condition examinations in consultation with Conservation department for artworks departing and arriving in Abu Dhabi.
  • Assist in installations and courier artworks, as needed.
  • As part of the Registrar team, the Senior RegistrarGuggenheim Abu Dhabi Project will work on special projects as needed.

WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties and International travel upon request.
  • Foreign language skills a plus.
  • Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays on occasion, including receiving shipments after hours.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Master’s Degree preferred.

LOCATION:  One Liberty Plaza New York, NY 10006
WORK SCHEDULE: 40 Hours per Week, Schedule TBD
POSITION TYPE:  Full-time, Exempt This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 2110 UAW.
SALARY RANGE: $105,000 – $115,000 Annually
