AMETEK PDS (Power and Data Systems) is seeking an energetic, innovative, electrical engineer to join our exceptional and growing engineering team. We design and manufacture advanced, high-reliability, aircraft avionics systems, as well as electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components. The Senior Project Engineer position will be an in-office position at either our Harleysville, PA or Wichita, KS engineering locations. Candidates who are interested in either location are encouraged to contact PDS.
Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Senior Project Engineer are the design and realization of electrical and electronic portions of PDS hardware. Execution of those responsibilities makes the Senior Project Engineer the primary technical point-of-contact with Teams that are associated with Project. These Teams include customers as well as internal technical and non-technical Teams.
Other Responsibilities

  • Detailed design and development of electrical or electronic hardware. Includes concept development, generation of schematics and similar documentation, generation of sub-assembly Bill Of Materials including selection of components.
  • Be one of the key decision-makers throughout a Projects' life-cycle, with emphasis on electrical / electronic aspects. This includes identifying technical risks, design alternatives, and similar decisions, that can help produce designs that meet or exceed Project requirements.
  • Work alongside other PDS Team Members, possibly coordinating their efforts at certain stages, in order to achieve Project milestones, such as schedules and costs, timely execution of Engineering reviews, and similar Project-related tasks. Work with other members of Engineering Team including fellow Project Engineers, electrical / PCB / mechanical CAD designers, Production Engineers, etc. throughout this process. Work with Program Management to determine and track milestones.
  • Work within guidelines of PDS Quality Management System (QMS), and Engineering Team requirements, to generate or review technical documentation that supports the multiple stages of a Project. This significant responsibility spans the Projects' life-cycle, from assisting the Sales Team with technical aspects of new business opportunities, to reviewing customer or regulatory specifications, to generating detailed documents required for regulatory submittal or otherwise part of certification process of PDS products.
  • Bring technical experience to bear, when needed, in multiple Project phases. Among several topics, this may include prototyping, electrical/electronic testing of Engineering hardware, assisting the Test Team with environmental testing, EMI/EMC testing, etc. Also assisting the Software Engineering Team during hardware/software integration and system-testing phases.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience designing analog/linear, logic-level/high-speed/low-speed digital, microprocessor, and power circuits.
  • Ability to produce accurate, detailed electronic schematics.
  • Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, dataloggers, analyzers, programmable waveform generators, power supplies, multi-meters, and programmable loads.
  • Ability to lead a project development effort from requirements though finished product.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Great communication and documentation skills.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Design experience with power semiconductors is a significant plus. High voltage, high current components, in both DC and AC applications, is very desirable. Effective implementation into reliable circuit-board assemblies would also be very desirable.
  • Knowledge and/or design of linear and switching power-supplies is desirable.
  • Experience with, and working-knowledge of, aerospace regulatory environments. Past interactions with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA, U.S.), European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA, E.U.), and other regulatory agencies is desirable.
  • Airborne electronic hardware development and testing experience underregulatory guidance, such as RTCA/DO-254 for Design Assurance, or RTCA/DO-160 for Environmental, Electrical, EMI/EMC Test Conditions.
  • Schematic capture using Altium. Circuit board layout experience with Altium is also very desirable, particularly experience with power-circuit layout as described above.
  • Experience with one or more of the following databus protocols: I2C, SPI, RS485, CANBus, and ARINC 429.
  • Requirements capture using 'IBM Rational DOORS' software application.
