This position is an opportunity to work collaboratively with office administration and firm leadership and to lead the financial management of all firm projects, and to ensure all team members, including project leads and project architects are following bKL policy and procedures.
JOB DESCRIPTION FOR SENIOR PROJECT ACCOUNTANT
Invoicing/Accounts Receivable Management
- Set up, lead, oversee and implement procedures to ensure client contractual requirements are met in regards to billing and accounts receivables
- Prepare or review monthly draft & final invoices for all billable projects, including all applicable backup
- Ensure projects are billed accurately and timely
- Ensure timely coordination with clients regarding invoicing and accounts receivable/collection efforts
- Manage the accurate and timely review and processing of employee timesheets, employee expense reports, accounts payable, internal cost recovery (postage, mileage, travel, meals) and various other accounting and financial management functions, as it relates to projects
- Identify complex accounts receivable issues and report to senior leadership to resolve or escalate appropriately
- Manage coordination with outside firms to manage sub-consultant invoicing and payment workflow
Compliance Reporting and Contract Management
- Perform client contract analysis to determine the billing deadlines, payments terms, billable and non-reimbursable expenses, agreements for insurance and fee billings along with approved billing rates for staff
- Understand contractual obligations that impact different business operations, including revenue recognition, audits, sub-consultant management, and client compliance requirements
- Support Project Leads regarding contract documents, additional services documentation and other contract modifications and approvals related to project accounting and billing
- Manage project financial closeout with project team and ensure final contract amount reconciliation and closeout documentation requirements have been met
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree required (Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred)
- 8 to 12 years financial work experience in the professional services industry, AEC industry experience preferred
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles & fundamentals to ensure timely and accurate reporting
- Able to perform cost analysis procedures
- Able to manage a team of 3, including 2 bookkeepers and 1 Project Accountant
- Must be poised, professional, accurate and thorough with exceptional attention to detail
- Must have strong proficiency with financial systems applications and MS Office, specifically Excel and Word
- Knowledge of Deltek Ajera accounting software, preferred
- Must be a self-starter, adaptable and flexible to operate with minimal direction and little or no supervision while working in a complex and changing environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong writing, editing and grammar skills
- Must be an excellent team player
- Solid experience in managing a financial operations team
- Able to multi-task, plan & organize work processes, manage priorities & meet commitments and deadlines
- Demonstrate enthusiasm and pride for your work and a desire to set high standards within the company
