Job description

We are seeking a Senior Program Officer. The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (GI), Department of Population, Family & Reproductive Health (PFRH) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) seeks a temporary, casual Senior Program Officers to support DEI and power-shifting conference/special event activities, advocacy workshops, organization and execution of virtual meetings and events, and other activities that may require travel.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Sr. Program Officer for the Gates Institute Anchor Grant and Sr. Events Coordinator with organizational, administrative, and facilitation support for upcoming events to be hosted at conferences within the area of reproductive health.
  • Regular communication with key partners across multiple sectors of the family planning and reproductive health realm is required.
  • The garnering of sponsorships from partners to help support this work financially is also expected. As well, this person will be responsible for assisting with the set-up and manning of the Gates Institute booth throughout the full length of each conference.
  • Work to ensure engagement of this key audience subset of our International Conference on Family Planning community, identify topical areas, activities, speakers, moderators, panelists and sponsors, and assist with the preparation of the Power-shifting workshop event logistics and associated materials.
  • Create a report documenting the outcomes of these conversations including next steps that the individuals and organizations involved wish to see and help to create and promote specific calls to action with the ICFP communications team that will help to bring about this change.
  • Additional work for the roles would include listserv management, execution of virtual meetings, and workshop facilitation.
  • This is a short-term, casual employee position which will run until June 30, 2023.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in a related field.
  • Five years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in public health or international development strongly preferred.
  • Deep interest in DEI and Power-shifting work within the reproductive health sector and knowledge of appropriate speakers, moderators, and sponsors doing work in this sector that will be excited to work with Gates Institute to help support this work.
  • Five years of experience in international program management
  • Superb communication (oral and writing) skills, tact, and cultural sensitivity in diverse contexts.
  • Skilled with Microsoft's Office products and tools.
  • Experience in academic and research environments preferred.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
